Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1525000 and is part of the IL 126, National Guard.
Major Duties:
- As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-12, you will act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Direct, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Work is performed in complex working conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Work with, coordinate and oversee the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics. Coordinate and oversee the work of journey level workers in other trades working simultaneously on the assigned aircraft. Participate in mission generation/regeneration operations. Perform preflight, postflight, thru flight, periodic, isochronal, phase, hourly and special inspections, as well as servicing, defueling, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Serve as the technical authority to advise on, inspect and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft. Control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel. Assign maintenance and repair functions to subordinate mechanics. Perform in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components undergoing repair, overhaul and/or modification to verify and certify by signature adherence to work techniques, procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications. Provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies and experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions.
Qualifications: AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), the only area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. Military Grades: Minimum Rank E6 - Maximum Rank E7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment and journeyman experience which includes experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-12 Level MUST possess, in addition to journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 grade level, experience performing duties as a dedicated crew chief; responsibility for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers; coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft; or serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
