What can you expect?

As the Concrete Construction Superintendent, you will work onsite in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA overseeing and managing all aspects of concrete construction projects from start to finish. You will directly supervise and coordinate the activities of the field crew ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. You will also manage all aspects of project field work including safety, environmental, craft labor and subcontractor oversight, and will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure successful project completion. This role is a working superintendent role and at times you will be required to be in equipment and on the ground as needed to perform on-site construction work.

How will you do it?

  • Manage and supervise all on-site activities related to concrete construction projects, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, project plans and specifications.
  • Monitor progress of concrete pour schedules and ensure deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards. 
  • Ensure that all equipment used in concrete work is properly maintained and functioning.
  • Operate equipment and provide hands-on support in the field to ensure the successful completion of tasks.
  • Assist and coordinate with the construction/project manager, architects, and engineers to ensure all project requirements are met, including scheduling, budgeting, and quality control. 
  • Organize mobilization and demobilization activities.
  • Manage field personnel to complete tasks on time and within budget and schedule the activities of the workers.
  • Reviews project plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes, local regulations, and industry standards.
  • Examine and inspect work progress and equipment to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Ensure that all necessary permits and inspections are obtained and completed in a timely manner. 
  • Manage and confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments and contractors to and resolve problems, issues or conflicts that may arise during the construction process, ensuring that all parties are informed and updated on project progress. 
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities.
  • Locate, measure, and mark site locations and placement of structures and equipment using measuring and marking equipment.
  • Coordinate multiple subcontractors during building construction
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports; communicate with Construction/Project Manager
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily progress reports, change orders, and project schedules.
  • Assign work to employees based on material and worker requirements of specific jobs.
  • Provide assistance to workers engaged in construction or activities using hand tools and equipment.
  • Ensure that all safety regulations and protocols are followed on-site at all times. 
  • Arrange for repairs of equipment and machinery.
  • Suggest or initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and hires.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises a construction crew and craft labor crew, subcontractor, and other personnel involved in concrete construction.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of managing concrete construction projects and equipment fleets required.
  • Knowledge of different types of concrete (e.g., high strength, self-compacting, lightweight) and how mix designs affect the performance of concrete.
  • Knowledge of additives, admixtures, and reinforcement methods used in concrete construction.
  • Knowledge of concrete construction processes, including forming, pouring, curing, and finishing techniques.
  • Familiarity with specific equipment used in concrete work such as mixers, pumps, screeds, and finishing tools.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to act calmly under stress and strain.
  • Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task and identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
  • Ability to work in a team environment while demonstrating strong supervisory skills, including the ability to resolve conflict effectively and constructively.
  • Ability to work independently and work cooperatively with others; ability to work with employees, business partners, and customers in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Ability to travel to project sites for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and long hours to support rigorous timelines
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to operate a standard computer or laptop with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other standard business applications.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.

Who is STG Pacific looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar degree required; applicable experience and equivalent skills may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience supervising or directing concrete construction crews required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing safety performance required.
  • Valid state driver’s license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the STG Pacific’s Driving Policy is required.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
