The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated person to join our Engineering team. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will serve as an integral contributor to the BW Engineering Department. You will be involved in various functions spanning the entire product line including both existing products and new product development. You will work closely with our Wisecarver Automation team as part of development of custom automation systems using BW products. This person shall be an energetic, hands-on creative problem solver that is effective in collaborating across all facets of the business. This role will report to the Director of Engineering.
Expectations of the role
- Contribute to and support all design engineering and new product development functions including prototyping
- Implement design enhancements to meet customer and corporate objectives
- Contribute to and support sales, marketing and manufacturing efforts as needed
- Project management of custom designed complex motion solutions and new product development
- Develop and review design models and prints for manufacturing using 3D CAD system, preferably Creo and SolidWorks
- Perform various analyses including FEA, thermal, stack-up tolerance, etc.
- Perform various testing related to development, qualification, root cause investigation, etc.
- Review documentation and specifications from suppliers
- Continually improve our testing and measurement procedures and methods
- Additional responsibilities as determined by your manager
Our Wishlist
- 5+ years leading or contributing to product development
- Demonstrated project management skills/tools
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience in electromechanical design
- VOC (Voice of the Customer) experience
- Experience with testing, systems integration, control system design and design of experiments
- Experience working with motion components (rails, bearings, wheels, etc.), motors, actuators, and sensors
- Experience taking products from idea to production within expected deadlines
- Must have practical knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Must have skill in preparing and analyzing complex technical specifications and possess the ability to effectively present technical solutions at all levels
- AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, MS Office experience
- Hands-on working experience in an R&D lab or manufacturing environment is a plus
- Familiarity/experience with machine design, electromechanical systems, and manufacturing methods preferred
- Develop motor control automation solutions
- Experience in leadership of a technical team
- Experience with hand tools, machine shop/fabrication, and programming (eg. LabView, PLC software) a plus
- Able to create FEA models for design verification
- Wide degree of creativity is expected
- Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills
- Able to react to change quickly
- Detail oriented and inquisitive
