Responsibilities:

The Clinical Operations Project Manager (COPM) is a strategic, system-thinking professional who leads and manages operational improvement initiatives, service line optimization, and project-based transformation efforts across the hospital. Reporting directly to the Chief Nurse Officer (CNO), the COPM plays a vital role in executing high-impact projects that advance clinical excellence, nursing operations, patient throughput, and administrative alignment. This role requires advanced skills in project management, change leadership, and interdepartmental coordination, with responsibilities spanning from executive-level project execution to hands-on team facilitation. The COPM supports both tactical implementation and strategic development across departments, driving efficiency, patient-centered practices, and long-term sustainability. The role contributes to fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence aligned with Dignity Health’s mission and core values. 

 

Project Leadership & Management:

  • Lead high-priority clinical and operational projects using structured methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC).
  • Serve as liaison among leadership, frontline teams, physicians, and administrators.
  • Develop and manage project charters, scopes, timelines, risks, and metrics.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary improvement efforts and ensure sustainability.

Strategic Operational Support:

  • Collaborate with CNEO and executive nursing leadership team on service line structures and operational strategies.  Support budgeting, capital planning and financial performance tracking.
  • Coordinate meetings, presentations, and executive documentation.
  • Lead leadership onboarding and alignment with organizational goals.

Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Drive care model redesign and administrative optimization efforts.
  • Conduct assessments and root cause analyses.
  • Manage special projects to improve quality, reduce LOS, and increase engagement. Compliance & Standards:
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements including policy and procedure development/ revision. 
  • Promote safety, infection control, and patient-centered practices.
  • Uphold Dignity Health’s mission, vision, and ethical standards.
Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, business, or related field required. Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management in healthcare/ clinical operations.
  • Background in hospital operations, service line transformation, or system-level change.

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Clinical licensure (e.g., RN) is advantageous.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training

  • Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and influence across levels.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and high-reliability practices.
