Senior Associate, Regulatory Compliance and Governance

This Senior Associate role is responsible for supporting the enhancement of Compliance’s policy and governance programs. 

This role’s primary responsibility is to provide cross-functional leadership for the implementation and execution of new processes related to the development of policies and committee governance.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of project management, with compliance and risk knowledge and working with diverse, cross-functional teams and stakeholders across the organization. 

This role will report into the Compliance Governance and Policy Manager

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Guide Compliance subject matter experts through developing and maintaining policies, standards, guidelines etc., that can then be operationalized by 1LOD to develop controls to efficiently achieve risk management goals and policy objectives.

  • Lead department meetings to support transformation and maintains efficient and appropriate governance to enable successful outcomes.

  • Develop processes to support policy and governance implementation initiatives.

  • Facilitates cross-functional alignment to develop robust global documentation and reach shared goals

  • Manage deliverables with a forward-looking mindset, i.e., proactively anticipate any potential issues, prevent them and/or work with management to define pragmatic contingency plans.

  • Proactively manage dependencies, ‘reusable assets’ (components of the solution that have been already built elsewhere), roadblocks and learning points (i.e., milestones defined to resolve any uncertainty that the team might be dealing with).

  • Timely escalate and relentlessly pursue resolution of any roadblocks with a clear, end-to-end ownership mindset.

  • Help shape best practices, standards and toolkit and strengthen our capabilities around compliance and legal risk.

The required skills and experience of the role include:

  • At least 5 years experience in risk management, compliance, or audit.

  • Demonstrated experience in governance and policy execution or remediation strategy. 

  • Great skills across communication (written and verbal), facilitation, interpersonal, conflict resolution, with the ability to establish credibility and foster excellent working relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Comfortable taking the initiative but also capable of recognizing complex problems and comfortable bringing questions to management

  • Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills and time management skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Governance, Risk & Compliance solutions.

Salary Range:

$83,100 - 141,300 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
