Overview:

Summer Interns complete a 10 week internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed.  Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank.  As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers as well as priority consideration for full time opportunities throughout the Bank.

Position Overview:

Join our Finance team as a Regulatory Reporting Intern and gain hands-on experience in the critical function of regulatory compliance within the banking industry. This internship offers exposure to the preparation and submission of reports to federal banking regulators, including the Federal Reserve, and FDIC. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals to ensure the bank meets its regulatory obligations accurately and timely.

What You’ll Learn:

• How banks manage regulatory risk and capital adequacy
• The structure and purpose of key banking regulatory reports
• Real-world applications of financial data analysis and reporting
• Exposure to regulatory frameworks such as Basel III, Dodd-Frank, and liquidity coverage ratios

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in compiling and validating data for key regulatory filings such as:
  • Call Reports (FFIEC 031/041)
  • FR Y-9C and FR Y-9LP
  • FR 2900 and FR 2052a liquidity reports
  • FR Y-14s and FR Y-15
  • FDIC 370
• Support reconciliation of financial data between general ledger and regulatory templates
• Help maintain documentation and controls to support audit and regulatory reviews
• Monitor regulatory updates and assist in assessing their impact on reporting processes
• Participate in automation and process improvement initiatives using Excel, SQL, or reporting tools

• Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
• Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable. 
• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
• Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0
