About the job

The Company

Lottomart Games is a rapidly growing jackpot entertainment brand offering players the best in slots, progressives, live games, table games, instants, lottery betting and exclusive scratchcards. We've been live since 2019 but still consider ourselves a start-up at heart; there's still plenty to go and tons of opportunity for talented people to progress quickly.

While we have bespoke designed tools and world-class technologies to make running the business easier and more efficient, we’ve also needed to grow the team to keep up with customer demand while continuing to deliver an exceptional player experience.

The Role

With our continued expansion plans, we are looking for a Data Engineer with advanced knowledge of SQL, Cloud Data Warehouses (BigQuery) and Python. As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining our data infrastructure to support various data initiatives and analytics needs within the organisation.

Working with our outstanding team, you’ll be responsible for extending our already powerful data capabilities to establish new processes, reports, and systems to support all areas of the business.

Here are some highlights of what to expect:

  • Data isn’t an afterthought; it’s a core part of our DNA. When we built the platform, we created our intelligence and analytics infrastructure alongside the engineering team to ensure that we had powerful capabilities from day 1.
  • Your work matters. Departments throughout the business depend on the data coming from this team and rely on its speed, accuracy, and insights to make good decisions that affect a huge player base.
  • You won’t be supporting legacy. Everything was built using modern tools and technologies and we’re constantly refining and upgrading our capabilities.
  • You’ll be working with the best and the brightest to help drive the business forward.
  • There’s a long list of interesting and complex projects we’re going to be building over the next few years, many of which will be from scratch.
  • Zero bureaucracy. We plan everything efficiently, roadmap it, and focus on delivery without all the red tape.

If that sounds interesting to you and you’re up for working with a nimble, talented, and lean team that thrives in a start-up environment, please reach out. We’d love to hear from you.

This role will report to the Head of BI & Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and understand the needs of the business for data analysis and reporting.
  • Design and implement data models, including data cleansing, transformation and aggregation to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from various sources including our in-house software and external service and data providers.
  • Develop and maintain data warehouse architecture to ensure reliability, accuracy, performance, and accessibility of data for analytics and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with the reporting team to develop, test, maintain and optimise reports, dashboards and KPIs to support business decision-making processes.
  • Stay up to date with technology and updates, evaluating new platforms, features and functionalities and recommending their adoption to enhance data and reporting capabilities.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure compliance with data governance policies and standards, including data privacy and security measures.
  • Implement data governance and security best practices to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of analytics policy, standards, and guidelines.

Your Experience

You should demonstrably understand the following:

  • Proven experience as a data engineer or similar role, with a strong track record of building and maintaining data infrastructure and pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and data warehousing solutions (e.g., BigQuery).
  • Strong proficiency with data integration techniques and tools, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data warehousing concepts to ensure data accuracy and ease of consumption.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Dataform, Meltano, Python) would be a plus.
  • Preferred experience in building data analytics solutions using Google Cloud Platform services such as Google BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow and DataPlex.
  • Strong knowledge in data modelling concepts, with the ability to design and optimize data modes for reporting and analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of source control tools, ideally using Bitbucket/Git.
  • Experience or exposure to JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience in developing visual reports, dashboards and KPIs (Power BI preferred) with proficiency in DAX with the ability to write complex calculations and transformations is a big plus.
  • Relevant work experience in Gaming is a plus.

Personal Characteristics

You should:

  • Learn all the time. The data space is so fast-moving that we can’t afford to stick with the same technologies forever. You should be curious to learn about new stuff and how it might apply to us.
  • Know how to present information to different audiences in a clear and easily-understood manner.
  • Thrive in a start-up environment; there’s always a lot happening but you’ll be surrounded by an incredibly talented team that’s always pushing for growth.
  • Be driven and motivated by building.
  • Be incredibly organised. There are a lot of moving parts with this role, so someone that can bring order and structured thought is vital.
  • Be curious. We want someone to turn over every stone in the interest of doing what’s best for the business!
  • Flourish by working independently or in a collaborative team environment. A lot of this role is going to be you identifying and determining what should be done.
  • Be flexible with shifting priorities and timelines; we are still a start-up, which means that one of our strengths is responding to new opportunities quickly.
  • Speak English fluently. Having other languages and exposure to many different cultures will be beneficial for building rapport with an inclusive team.
