Job Description:

Louisiana State University (LSU) Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) Laboratory seeks a field manager for the Forensic Taphonomy Education and Research Facility (FTERF). This position is responsible for activities associated with the placement, daily/weekly taphonomic assessments, retrieval, and coordination of all human body donations; for managing the FTERF Human Body Donation Program; for procurement and maintenance of all FTERF equipment and supplies; for weekly/as needed lawn and facility maintenance; for assisting with law enforcement workshops at and student field trips to the FTERF; for training/supervising undergraduate and graduate students on FTERF related activities; and for coordinating research that takes place at the FTERF or that is associated with FTERF data.

The position requires regular interaction and communication with the public, donor family members, medicolegal agencies, and funeral homes regarding body donation; the ability to work outdoors, withstand extreme heat conditions, maneuver unstable terrain, climb into and out of field units, and move a minimum of 50 pounds of weight; situation awareness, critical thinking, decision making, and flexibility under changing conditions; and regular communication/coordination with other FACES Laboratory professional staff. Position does not support activities related to certification with the American Board of Forensic Anthropology.

Job Responsibilities:

60% - Forensic Taphonomy Education and Research Facility (FTERF) Management: includes weekly/as needed lawn/facility maintenance at FTERF; scheduling and oversight of donor placement/retrieval, daily/weekly taphonomic assessments, field map, visiting maintenance personnel and researchers, student field trips, and workshops; procurement, organization, and maintenance of FTERF equipment and supplies; communications with Louisiana State Police (LSP) regarding FTERF schedule; review of research requests to use FTERF or FTERF data; assisting with training/workshops for law enforcement; developing / updating FTERF policies and procedures; maintaining FACES Lab vehicles; requires daily travel to and from FTERF in Zachary, LA.

20% - Human Body Donation Program (HBD): includes coordinating with the public and other agencies regarding body donation and transport; communicating with families of donors; handling inquiries regarding HBD; developing / updating policies and all HBD forms; transporting donors to and from LSU / agency / and FTERF; coordinating and mailing death certificates; maintaining donor files and database; developing / updating infographics or public outreach materials regarding the HBD; requires travel throughout the state.

15% - Trains and Supervises 4-6 GAs in policies and procedures for and to assist with: FTERF lawn and equipment maintenance; donor placement/retrieval; and data collection.

5% - Associated research with dissemination at appropriate professional conferences and journals. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Level: Bachelor's
Specific Degree: Anthropology with a forensic focus, or related field

Years of Experience: 2

Specific Experience: Forensic taphonomy, human decomposition facilities' research or data collection.

Preferred Qualifications
Education Level: Master's

Specific Degree: Anthropology, forensic taphonomy focus
Years of Experience: 1-3

Specific Experience: Forensic taphonomy, human decomposition facilities' research or data collection. Experience communicating with funeral directors, legal next of kin for decedents, medicolegal and hospital personnel .

Special or Physical Qualifications

Applicant must be able to maneuver unstable terrain, climb into and out of forensic field units, and move of a minimum of 50 pounds of weight.
Due to the nature and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to alcohol/drug testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

Certifications/Licenses

Valid Driver's License - Must be able to drive University vehicles to travel to and from Forensic Facility.
