POSITION: Development Director
STATUS: Exempt; At-will
SUPERVISOR: Chief Executive Officer
WAGE: $70,000-85,000 a year

Position Summary
BGCNV is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Development Director with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills and a strong background in sales. This leadership role is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive development strategy to raise local funds. The Development Director will lead fundraising, donor engagement, and community outreach efforts, while supervising the Event & Marketing Coordinator who manages marketing, communications, and public relations. Must abide by and support the Club mission, to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as caring, productive and responsible citizens.
The ideal candidate should:
· Demonstrate strategic thinking in donor segmentation, cultivation, and stewardship.
· Leverage data-driven decision-making to optimize fundraising campaigns and donor retention.
· Build scalable systems for donor engagement, including automation tools and CRM workflows.
· Foster cross-functional collaboration with program staff to align fundraising with impact storytelling.
· Expand corporate and foundation partnerships through targeted outreach and customized proposals.
· Lead with vision and adaptability, responding to community needs and funding trends.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy & Donor Engagement
· Develop and execute comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
· Research and identify major corporate, foundation, government and individual donors and recommend solicitation strategies
· Drive donor acquisition and retention through personalized outreach, relationship management, and strategic segmentation.
· Lead annual appeals, donor campaigns, pledge drives, and special fundraising initiatives, including the Seedling Society endowment program.
· Prepare compelling donor materials, presentations, and proposals tailored to diverse audiences.
· Ensure consistent donor recognition across platforms and collaborate with the Seedling Society Committee to promote planned giving and long-term sustainability.
· Support Board and Committee fundraising efforts through strategic planning and engagement.
· Supervise the Event & Marketing Coordinator in planning and executing fundraising events and sponsorships.
· Maintain accurate donor database records and reporting to inform strategy, track performance, and ensure acknowledgment of contributions.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
· Build and maintain strategic relationships with community leaders, funders, local officials, and partner organizations.
· Represent BGCNV at community events, donor meetings, and public forums.
· Provide tours and presentations to prospective donors and stakeholders.
· Support cross-departmental collaboration to align fundraising with program outcomes and impact.
· Support volunteer engagement efforts through corporate employee volunteer programs.
Strategic Planning & Leadership
· Collaborate with the CEO and Board to develop and monitor resource development plans.
· Provides leadership to various teams including board and special committees to accomplish shared goals and complete initiatives.
· Analyze fundraising performance and recommend strategies for growth.
· Manage departmental budgets and align with organizational financial goals.
· Train and support staff in donor engagement best practices.
Marketing, Communications & Public Relations
· Supervise the Event Coordinator in executing marketing and communications strategies.
· Ensure brand consistency and visibility across platforms.
· Review and approve promotional materials, press releases, and digital content.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent professional experience.
· Minimum of two years in nonprofit leadership, preferably in youth development, with demonstrated success in fundraising, donor relations, and community engagement.
· At least one year of professional sales experience, with a portfolio demonstrating successful client acquisition, sponsorship sales, and/or donor engagement outcomes totaling at a minimum $250,000 annually.
· Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience addressing diverse audiences including donors, stakeholders, and community groups.
· Experience in event planning and marketing coordination is preferred.
· Skilled in event planning and coordination, with an understanding of how events support fundraising goals.
· Proficiency in donor management systems and fundraising analytics; ability to interpret data to inform strategy.
· Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships.
· Exceptional written communication and storytelling abilities to convey impact and inspire giving.
· Understanding of budgeting and financial principles related to fundraising.
· Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with graphic design tools, social media platforms, and WordPress is a plus.
· Commitment to youth development and alignment with BGCNV’s mission and values.
· Must be eligible to drive and pass BGCNV’s auto insurance clearance process.
· Must pass FBI, DOJ, and overall background checks.
