Job Summary

The General Manager (GM), Medicine Shoppe Canada’s key responsibilities are to direct the day-to-day activities and execution of the Medicine Shoppe Canada franchise system. The GM has overall responsibility for setting and executing the Medicine Shoppe strategic plan, including: site approval; real estate and leasing negotiations; financing of pharmacies; professional and retail program design; national marketing program; operational excellence; and franchisee and employee engagement.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Set and direct the execution of the annual Medicine Shoppe business, financial and strategic plans

  • Oversee franchise agreements, financial plans and performance in collaboration with the Business Development and Financing team

  • Provide oversight, guidance and leadership to the Franchise Innovation, Initiation and Business Management teams

  • Collaborate with internal and external Legal counsel to update contracts and documentation as needed

  • Set the annual Marketing budget and approve strategy for both Franchisee recruitment and National Advertising Program

  • Review and approve Franchise Vendor/3rd party agreements, lease renewals, month-end reports, License Agreement and Disclosure Documentation prior to distribution, and License Fee and National Advertising Fund reports

  • Establish and lead Franchise Governance, Management and Franchisee Forums

  • Drive Franchisee alignment, engagement and buy-in on strategic direction and future initiatives

  • Collaborate with McKesson Technology to align on Medicine Shoppe future technology roadmaps, budgets and timing

  • Act as tier 3 point of escalation for Franchisee / Franchise System issues and opportunities

  • Review and approve detailed processes and budgets across the Franchise team

  • Drive best-in-class KPIs, both financial and relational including: AOP; Net Promoter Score; Employee Engagement; Manager Quality

  • Represent the Franchise in both internal cross-functional teams and external forums

  • Identify, support and execute an ongoing Individual Development Plan (IDP) for self and direct reports

  • Oversee, lead, train, mentor and develop Medicine Shoppe team members to achieve superior performance and career aspirations

  • Clearly communicate and monitor team goals and performance expectations standards

  • Drive ongoing improvements to achieve best-in-class Employee and Franchisee Engagement

Key Requirements

  • Post secondary education in a related discipline

  • 15+ years of professional experience in franchising, business development and/or retail pharmacy practice and operation

Key Competencies

  • Excellent organization, collaboration, planning and time management skills

  • Superior communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated advanced leadership and people skills, executive presence, relational skills, customer focused

  • Ability to prioritize and delegate key activities

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Legal documentation experience

  • Strong analytical and business management skills

Supervision and Communications

  • 3-6 direct reports, 10+ indirect reports

  • Internal communication with all levels of McKesson

  • External communication with Franchisees, Franchisee candidates, key pharmacy stakeholders, trade associations, colleges, universities, regulators, media, financial institutions, real estate brokers, landlords.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$138,800 - $231,300
