Job Description

Summary: The QA Software Engineer ensures internal and external customers’ requirements are met by conducting software testing and verifying software functionality against product requirements and technical specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


•Perform evaluations and audits of software documentation and software processes associated with products under test.
•Establish, adhere to, and maintain software testing methodology and test environments.
•Review requirements and technical designs for projects and provides test scope and estimates.
•Create and validate software test documentation, including test plans, test procedures, test scripts, and diagrams depicting the test process/workflow.
•Collaborates with non-technical MedImpact cross-functional team members.
•Executes and tracks testing on assigned MedImpact proprietary products, including new products and modifications to existing systems.
•Actively identifies potential process improvements, error trends and/or the root causes. Makes recommendations for remedies to colleagues and management.
•Communicates software issues through defects and enhancement requests to project team.
•Actively provides status to lead or supervisor on assigned projects.
•Projects as assigned based on business needs.
•May lead test efforts for small or medium-sized software projects or changes.

Client Responsibilities


This is an internal (and external to IT) client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written). One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

Education and/or Experience


B.S. degree preferably in information technology, computer science or related (or equivalent combination of education and experience), and 5+ years’ related experience in software quality assurance testing methodology.


Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should basic competencies and knowledge of:
•Quality Assurance testing techniques used to test software applications (test suites and scripts), anomaly reporting, software analysis, automated software test development and execution with open-source and licensed tools (examples include Selenium, TestNG, and ReadyAPI), functional and system testing, “black box” and “white box” testing techniques, and software development data validation functional and system service testing.
•Experience testing web and back-end applications, including web services, written in java.
•Experience testing across web browsers including configuration, cache, and debugging techniques.
•Experience with browser testing tools like HTTPWatch, FireBug, WireShark, and Fiddler are desirable.
•Experience working with or developing test automation in a software platform consisting of object-oriented programming languages (Java, C++) with service oriented architecture (SOA) deployed across distributed infrastructure.
•Experience with UNIX systems including advanced level knowledge of shell scripting, and some experience with perl, python, awk, or sed.
•Database knowledge: database structures and PL/SQL syntax, complex SQL joins, and ETL data transformation. Experience with Informatica ETL tools is a plus.
•Basic understanding of LAN/WAN networking and physical and virtual hardware systems related to the IT operational environment.
•Experience working with defect management and test management tools (examples: HP ALM, IBM ClearQuest, Bugzilla)
•Testing experience within an organization that has utilized Rapid or Agile software development life cycles desirable.
•Microsoft Office Professional and Windows PC environment

Other Skills and Abilities
•Previous experience or knowledge of managed care, pharmaceutical, and medical terminology is preferred. Prior experience in a regulated environment is helpful.
•Must have good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Must have the proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships across departments.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Employees must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Language Skills


Must possess the ability to read, write, and interpret business and technical documentation, including the ability to create test plan documents and technical and process diagrams. Must possess the ability to write and speak effectively to a targeted audience including technical teams, business owners, and management.

Work Location


This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders. Remote work is not an option for these purposes.


Working Hours


This is an exempt level position requiring one to work the hours needed to get the job done. Therefore employees must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. Working hours may vary to meet the needs of the business. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.


Travel

This position may require occasional travel and attendance at local conferences and meetings.
