The Opportunity
The Consultant, Support Services will support the services encompassed in the Program and Support Services including Recreation/Activity Programming, Volunteer Services, Pastoral Care Services, Social Work Services, Restorative Care, Dementia Care Services, and Interdisciplinary Services in a specified group of long-term care homes in the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Identifies, coordinates and assists in the home’s compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations and other pertinent legislated standards and requirements regulating the operation of the homes.
  • Monitors and reports on the effective management and quality improvement systems for the operation of Programs and Support Services in the homes.
  • Coordinates and directs programs and support services activities in collaboration with the Directors, Executive Directors and Programs and Support Services staff and the interdisciplinary team in the homes.
  • Promotes resident safety through the monitoring and evaluation of Infection, Prevention and Control practices and support services.
  • Acts as a resource for Resident and Family Councils.
  • Provides feedback for evaluation of Programs and Support Services Managers and contracted service providers as appropriate.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Programs and Support Services Policy and Procedure Manuals and recommends changes to be presented to the Operations team for final approval.
  • Ensures quality of life for the resident by promoting the values and philosophy of the organization.
  • Develops and presents in-service education programs that enhance or improve the provision of services, goods and programs to the residents. Promote staff development through effective and on-going support and coaching.
  • Stays up to date with industry trends, regulations, and policies related to long-term care and integrate this into practice.
  • Maintains effective liaison and public relations with the representatives from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario Health at Home, the community and other appropriate regulatory agencies and organizations.


What You Bring

  • Degree/Diploma in Recreation or other appropriate discipline.
  • Education in long-term care management. Administrator certification through a Ministry of Health-approved program is recommended.
  • At least 5 years of relevant management experience and 3 years of relevant experience in long-term care.
  • A thorough knowledge of long-term care, including knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Act and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act and other pertinent provincial and municipal laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with organization and management function as it relates to Programs and Support Services.
