Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has a need for a Staff Guidance Navigation Control engineer to lead various Core Vehicle Management System (Core VMS) company funded activities, including the development of the next generation of navigation technology and Sense And Avoid (SAA). This role is a hybrid position located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.  Up to 10% travel may be required to perform the statement of work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical development, integration and testing of advanced Vehicle Management System software and hardware components.  Responsibilities include interfacing with strategic supplier partners, coordinating with adopting programs' chief engineers and division chief architects to ensure technical requirements are properly incorporated into design solutions; and ensuring Core VMS lab infrastructure is developed and validated to support development efforts for critical sector programs and advanced design solutions.  This opportunity provides the candidate the ability to work with numerous aircraft programs across the system life cycle. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic qualifications for a Staff Engineer Project lead include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 12 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 10 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 7 years of experience.

  • Proficient with MATLAB and Simulink

  • Knowledge of C/C++ and Python

  • Knowledge of flight science and navigation technologies

  • Previous experience in project leadership or chief engineering

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher

Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
