POSITION:                            Accessibility Specialist

EMPLOYER:                         Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade

POSITION STATUS:            Fixed term contract (12months), Full time
REPORTS TO:                      Key Stakeholder and Partnerships Director

LOCATION:                          Remote

SALARY BANDING:            E (core)

SALARY:                                £50,000 - £55,000

 

The Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade is the premier association for exporters and importers, empowering organizations and individuals with the tools and knowledge required for effective, sustainable, and competitive international trade.

We provide a comprehensive suite of memberships, qualifications, training, events, and advisory services for global trade professionals. In collaboration with the UK government, we set trade standards nationally and internationally. In summer 2024 we proud became the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade, highlighting our role and the professional status of our members in global trade.

 

We are now recruiting an Accessibility Specialist  to work remotely.

 

JOB BRIEF

  • As an accessibility specialist within the Chartered Institute you’ll work with multidisciplinary teams, alongside researchers, subject matter experts, learning designers, and content creators to ensure we deliver user-centred services that are accessible and inclusive.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • work within the content creation and product teams to embed accessibility best practice into products and services
  • increase the capability of teams to deliver accessible products and services through training, support, and advice
  • write and maintain guidance and advise on latest WCAG criteria and accessibility standards
  • monitor products for accessibility best practices and conformance to accessibility standards
  • review products and services using a range of techniques, including design reviews, automated testing and manual code inspection and provide recommendations for resolving problems
  • benchmark and track the success of interventions to embed accessibility practices, identifying and escalating risks where necessary
  • support product teams with procuring, and interpreting, independent accessibility audits

 

DESIRED SKILLS SET AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • familiarity with front-end development technologies, specifically HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA
  • expert knowledge of existing and emerging accessibility guidelines and standards, particularly the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • demonstrable experience of evaluating the accessibility of digital websites and providing feedback, advice and solutions to help fix identified issues
  • knowledge and experience of testing with a range of assistive technologies including customised browser settings, screen magnification, screen readers, speech recognition and literacy software
  • proven experience of working with delivery teams to identify and fix accessibility barriers and raise accessibility capability
  • demonstrable ability to write accessibility guidance and documentation, and deliver accessibility training through presentations and workshops
  • experience working in agile, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Great attention to detail
  • Confident in writing e-mails and letters with a professional telephone manner.
  • Good at problem solving
  • The ability to work with confidential and discreet matters/information
  • Keenness to learn and develop
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • People Orientated with strong communication skills at all levels
  • Being a team player

NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL:

  • Experience in training and education content
  • Experience in content presented online and in other media
