We are seeking a Accessory Exterior Design Engineer to join our Farmington Hills, MI team.
As member of Accessory Engineering department, you will be responsible for development of Nissan and Infiniti genuine Accessory exterior parts. This includes any tasks related to development of accessory parts within a vehicle system from concept stage until release for production and maintenance.
Key job responsibilities:
- This includes any tasks related to development of accessory parts within a vehicle system from concept stage until release for production and maintenance.
- Project management of assigned accessory part development to achieve program cost, quality, development timing targets.
- Feasibility studies along with cost estimations for new accessory parts
- Exterior part design, component and vehicle level testing, validation and cost estimating preferred.
- Coordinate Design Studio, Vehicle Development, Suppliers, Tool Shops, and other design departments to ensure high quality design execution that meets the required strength, durability, functional, packaging, and appearance requirements.
- Participate in and/or conduct design reviews for spec development, product design, and product verification
- Review of existing supplier designs for quality and cost to eliminate potential quality issues and identify potential cost savings.
- Multitask components or systems between vehicle model lines from current production maintenance, pre-launch and advance engineering to achieve timely and appropriate closure
- Determine root cause and short and long term corrective actions for issues discovered during development
- Ensure Best Practices are implemented in the designs
- Ability to coordinate and conduct vehicle installation trials including troubleshooting and hands-on work.
- Lead and /or participate in manufacturing build confirmation and audits. Some travel required.
- Ensure all supplier issues are closed though trouble-shooting, root cause analysis and counter-measure verification.
- Lead cross-functional teams to implement design and manufacturing changes.
- Planning and management of component and system-level validation testing.
- Test and certification report generation.
- Prior experience with Nissan systems / processes desired.
Minimum requirements:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering degree
- Minimum 3 years of related professional experience
- Knowledge of Exterior trim component design preferred. Ability to independently review and understand all issues related to successful development and on time launch.
Other requirements:
- Must be able to independently manage suppliers and project development
- Understanding of basic NPQP requirements.
- Ability to monitor and meet part cost and quality targets.
- Effective communication skill within all levels of the organization and with outside organizations
- Focused on getting the job done and delivering at a high quality
- Work in teams and independently
- Microsoft Office tools
- DFMEA, FTA, Decision Matrix, DVP&R (STR management), CAD usage (Working knowledge of either IDEAS/NX or CATIA)
- G2B, TCE, PDM or similar BOM/CAD System, working knowledge preferred.
- Willingness to work overtime to get the job done.
