About the Program:
The 10-week Zayo Summer Internship Program is designed to cultivate the next generation of telecommunications professionals. Interns will gain meaningful, hands-on experience within a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative environment. Our goal is to empower, develop, and connect our interns while fostering fresh perspectives and ideas that will drive our organization forward.

Start Date: June 2025
Duration: 10 weeks
Location: Denver-based preferred, based on hiring team’s needs.
Zayo’s Optical Engineering team is an all-star cast of highly motivated, technical professionals who are responsible for engineering solutions for all Wavelength services implemented on Zayo’s international network. Members of this team are excited to utilize cutting edge technology day in and day out to design the powerful, reliable services Zayo’s customers have enjoyed for years. Optical Engineers are extremely detail oriented, highly organized, and communicate effectively with the organization. Fast paced, technical, and driven are a few words that describe this elite group.
Zayo has an exciting opening for a highly motivated and quick learning Optical Network Engineer Intern to join this team to assist with and gain experience in many areas of engineering as part a Tier 1 service provider. The Optical Network Engineer Intern will work alongside the other engineers and assist with gathering engineering information, creating/updating designs, equipment logistics, and dispatching field engineers with a detailed statement of work.

Responsibilities:
Project Engineering: Assist in managing and completing assigned projects within specified timelines. Most projects will focus on new service engineering, but may also include network audits, configuration/inventory verification, and development of network tools and reports.
Network Documentation: Create and update network documentation and diagrams. A strong proficiency in Visio and excellent written communication skills are essential for this role.
Deployable Hardware Logistics: Coordinate the movement of deployable equipment across various markets and maintain accurate inventory levels. Ensure timely replenishment of stock to support the ongoing expansion of the production network.
Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program for the fall semester of 2025, having completed at least your sophomore year.
Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Optical Engineering, RF, or a related field.
Working knowledge of Optical DWDM networking and fiber optic networks is preferred.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Visio is required, as these tools are critical for day-to-day tasks.
Exceptional organizational skills to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Knowledge of telecommunications terminology is a plus.
Estimated base pay range: $23.00 - $25.00 USD/hour.
