The Lead, Total Rewards will be responsible to ensure the administration and maintenance of total rewards programs including, but not limited to, salary administration, short-term and long-term incentive plans, external benchmarking, internal equity, HR Framework, HR Systems
To provide Total Rewards recommendations to ensure internal equity, market competitiveness, legislative compliance, performance development, HR Reporting Governance and HR System Enhancements to enable business objectives at all levels.
To work with stakeholders, at different levels of the organization, supporting the Total Rewards programs, and consult with HR managers and business partners on Total Rewards policies and practices in support of business needs related to the organization's strategy.
Here is what you will be doing:
Leads total rewards (TR) projects (such as plan changes, collective agreement amendments, legislative requirements/changes (e.g. Pay Equity), policy/process reviews, HR system enhancements, etc.) from conception to implementation including identifying requirements, planning, executing, reporting, monitoring, and closure and lessons learned.
Prepares briefing notes, and comprehensive presentations for the senior leadership team on various changes to Total Rewards programs, practices, polices and initiatives.
Leads the benchmarking process to gather and analyze market data to evaluate and determine the competitiveness of Ontario Health’s compensation programs in alignment with the Benefits and Total Rewards strategy.
Conducts external environmental market scans to ensure salaries and benefits are competitive to Ontario Health’s goals. Provides the Director with the analytical results of market surveys, recommendations, and presentations for decision-making purposes.
Supports the financial modeling to ensure viability of programs, as required.
Manages the salary administration process as a program, including the annual compensation processes, pay for performance, performance management, and short-term incentives, and establishes applicable salary increase guidelines, individual adjustments, validation, and reporting.
Develops materials to effectively communicate Total Reward programs, policies and practices to team members and people leaders.
Conducts the annual review of compensation bands to remain competitive.
Oversees research regarding current trends to assist in the development and maintenance of a competitive Total Rewards programs as part of the Benefits and Total Rewards strategy.
Identifies opportunities to consolidate/recalibrate job levels, job codes, base pay structures and bonus programs.
Leads the job evaluation process including evaluating/analyzing job descriptions and market premium jobs within established bands/ranges. Leverages a systematic way of determining the value/worth of a job in relation to other jobs across Ontario Health and provides comparison between jobs to assess their relative worth for the purpose of establishing a rational pay structure. Monitors, and maintains the job evaluation tools to ensure their integrity.
Supports the development/revisions of job descriptions and maintains the job description inventory.
Stays current with changes within the organization and its impact on total rewards activities.
Supports the development and integration of new and/or existing rewards programs, policies and procedures to ensure that programs are market competitive, internally equitable, and cost effective.
Monitors the HR Reporting Framework, determining where new metrics are required.
Implements and monitors the effectiveness of ongoing Total Reward programs and new initiatives
Supports the development and maintenance of Total Rewards administration guidelines and ensures compliance with legislation, as well as corporate policies and procedures.
Acts as a subject matter expert in benefits with a strong understanding of the industry including trends, concepts, policies, procedures, and best practices and provides guidance to HR staff and clients and be the point of contact to address any escalated inquiries.
Interprets Ontario Health’s Benefit contracts and Collective Agreements to ensure that plans are set up correctly within the HR Systems and administered accordingly.
Ensures that the correct information is provided to third party vendors via existing and new integrations in a timely manner.
Works closely with IT with regards to programming the system to ensure that confidential information is secure and accurately reflected in the system.
Collaborates with the HR Systems team on Workday configuration/updates by determining the optimal compensation architecture and automation of compensation administration.
Recommends new approaches and improvements to current Total Rewards processes and procedures, to support an environment of continuous improvement.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Completion of a Degree/Diploma in Human Resources or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Professional certification (CCP and/or CEBS) is strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years of project management experience; Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset
5 - 7 years of progressively responsible HR experience in an analytical, Total Rewards focused role with experience in the design, development, implementation, and administration of all types of Total Rewards programs.
Knowledge and Skills
Advanced knowledge of HR principles and practices in Total Reward plans, policies and processes and the use of HRIS systems (i.e., Workday); Superior understanding of the administration of a broad-based pension program.
Strong knowledge of Total Reward cycles, including salary administration, surveys, market analysis, structure development, and incentive/compensation design as well as HR analytics, HR systems, and pensions.
Superior knowledge and understanding of best practices, trends and legislative requirements as related to compensation matters and benefits; ability to understand program area complex technical content.
Forward-looking strategic thinker to identify and recommend short- and long-term options for Total Rewards plans, policies and processes and the use of HRIS systems.
Proven ability to initiate, co-ordinate and oversee the implementation of solutions while working collaboratively with other team members
Financial acumen and strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to effectively analyze data and create clear and comprehensive reports and recommendations.
Ability to identify relevant data and data sources to provide meaningful analysis.
Highly developed ability to strategically manage conflicting priorities and points of view and demonstrate the HR value proposition to all levels of staff.
Proven project management and leadership skills to lead rewards program design changes from concept to execution.
Excellent priority setting and organizational skills with the flexibility and adaptability to respond to shifting business needs.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and/or conflicting deadlines, and solve challenging problems in a fast-paced environment while also working collaboratively in a team environment.
Good judgment and discretion with highly confidential and sensitive personnel information.
Proven innovative approaches to ensure continuous improvement.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex compensation findings and insights to a range of internal stakeholders, with varying levels of total reward program knowledge.
Working knowledge of Workday and HR Systems; Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) and other internal applications, as required.
