Title: Drama Director - High School
Reports To: High School Principal

Summary: The High School Drama Director is to lead and manage all aspects of our high school’s theatrical productions, including a fall play and a spring play. The ideal candidate will inspire students, foster creativity, and promote collaboration while developing high-quality performances that showcase student talent and support the arts in our school community.
This position typically involves after-school hours but may require additional evenings or weekends for rehearsals, performances, and events.
Essential Functions:
Selects appropriate plays for fall and spring productions in consultation with administration and aligned with student interests and school values.
Plans and leads regular rehearsals, focusing on drama cohesion, individual theater development, and overall drama performance.
Directs all aspects of the productions, including casting, scheduling, rehearsals, blocking, and performance execution.
Oversees student auditions, selecting members based on skill and potential to contribute to the group.
Oversees and collaborates with technical staff and volunteers on set design, lighting, costumes, sound, props, and stage management.
Provides a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Manages production budgets responsibly and coordinates with administration on purchasing and fundraising needs.
Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.
Maintains regular communication with parents and administrators regarding student rehearsals and upcoming events.
Supervises students during rehearsals and performances, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
Promotes performances within the school and the wider community to increase attendance and support.
Manages and maintains the theater space and ensures proper use and care of equipment and materials.
Mentors and guides students in their theater journey, helping them develop as both thespians and responsible individuals.
Education and/or Certification Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Theater, English, or a related field.
Teaching certification in drama or a related area preferred.
Strong background in theater, including performance and pedagogy.
Experience Needed:
Previous experience directing theatrical productions, especially with high school students.
Previous experience teaching high school students in a classroom or theater setting is preferred.
