The Director, Physical Security leads the overall management and direction for the Security program in the designated region and is responsible for the safety of employees, protection of company assets and coordination of the Incident Management processes. They will be an individual with experience working at
regional level with core skills in security and risk management and will be motivated and able to work with little direction and able to set their own agenda for day-to-day work. Security services are delivered through an outsourced model and therefore managing contracts and a partnership style relationship with our suppliers for manned guarding, travel security, site security equipment and security technology are vital to success in this role.
Strategically develops, directs and reports on global policies, guidelines and programs to promote a safe and secure work environment.
Business and financial decision-making and acumen
Responsible for strategic planning and overseeing security operations management
Responsible for leading confidential investigations and acting as liaison with local and federal law
enforcement agencies when necessary.
Create strong, open and direct relationships with senior stakeholders to support growth: Build rapport with them through regular communications and interaction. Understand the key business drivers and strategy of Thomson Reuters.
Add value to business units by strong delivery of risk and security services and advice so they
can achieve their objectives and generate growth.
Build and maintain an effective partnership with service providers and governmental authorities
Site Security & Security Technology: Contribute to the ongoing work on the Global Physical Security Strategy and Standards, ensure sites are aligned to the standards and drive consistency across the portfolio; Oversee the planning of upgrades, renewals and projects relating to access control, CCTV and other security technology; Maintain an excellent relationship with the Technology function to ensure that all security systems are appropriately supported; Maintain appropriate standards for data privacy by ensuring policy is adhered to and adjusted when regulations change; Work with the Real Estate function to use security access data to enable us to make most efficient use of our facilities and any consolidation projects or new sites; Oversee and review the use of manned guarding in conjunction with security technology to deliver appropriately secure work facilities
Intelligence: Ensure that the business receives business support and situational awareness to mitigate risks and facilitates the business operation. (This will be mostly provided by the Security
Operations Center); Oversee the process for ensuring the business has situational awareness (detect-assess-respond-escalate).
Travel and Event Security: Drive the travel security program in partnership with vendors and Security Operations to ensure that the business receives appropriate support and advice before, during and
after business travel (medical, safety and security); Develop and enhance a framework for the travel security program including security
escorts for high-risk countries where appropriate; Ensure that bespoke travel support is provided, e.g., through travel security assessments and intelligence products, for any staff travelling to high-risk countries; Provide risk assessments and on-site support if required for major company events.
Executive Protection: Have experience of Executive or VIP Protection, including both advising executives on appropriate security protocols as well as actively delivering Executive Protection where needed: Conduct site surveys and security advances as necessary; Conduct personal threat assessments for the CEO and Senior Executives; Review travel and make appropriate security recommendations; Conduct vetting of third-party vendors when executive is traveling; Monitor social media, print and other sources for items that may impact the TREC or Brandan; Maintain contact with Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement in jurisdictions where our senior leadership maintains residences; Establish a network of security contacts to reference when issues arise that may affect the senior leaders and/or brand; Maintain accurate and up to date biographical records of those deemed to be protected
Incident Management and Emergency Response: Partner with the Resilience function and be a key participant in the incident management process; Take the lead when a significant physical security incident occurs that requires an incident management team to be stood up; Ensure that emergency/incident communications for Thomson Reuters’ businesses and leadership is provided in the region. This includes security reporting on the environment, developing scenarios or on real time incidents specifically impacting our business, as well as overseeing the use of mass notifications where needed.
Audit: Support audit requests that have a physical security component, including preparing evidence of compliance; Provide responses to external client requests for due diligence.
Supplier Governance: Be knowledgeable of the contract and service deliverables as well as the charging mechanism agreed; Establish, develop and report on Key Performance Indicators intended to drive alignment and supplier performance; Review minimum wage/other statutory changes that impacts the organization; Analysis of monthly and quarterly metrics in order to ensure service delivery and to make improvements; Conduct high level assurance reviews of key business processes provided by suppliers; Identify opportunities for cost reduction. Monitor vendor CAPEX initiatives and review business cases for CAPEX for security installations; Working with sourcing for the selection of vendors for delivery of security infrastructure projects or services; Thoughtful management of services to ensure resources are used as effectively and cost efficiently as possible; Support vendors in the development and implementation/maintenance of appropriately scaled procedures for the function. This to include training staff, updating, rehearsal, practice and exercising. Full after-action reviews following training or real-time incident response.
About You
Security Experience - Risk and security management at major firm or regional level essential. Global experience desirable.
Leadership and People Management - Experience of employee and vendor personnel management essential. High level of personal initiative, motivation and integrity essential. Experience of change management and team leadership highly desirable.
Judgement & Analysis - Ability to analyze data and make sound decisions. Able to stay calm, focused and positive during a crisis situation, look at the available information and make judgement calls under pressure. Able to adjust priorities in rapidly changing circumstances whilst maintaining focus on the key deliverables. Able to take in large amounts of information, sift, discard and retain the key elements.
Communications - Strong and proactive communicator across written work, presentations and ad-hoc verbal briefings, in particular the ability to write well. Comfortable briefing senior business managers and groups. Ability to generate trust and rapport with key stakeholders across the business and buy-in from others to new ideas through influence and assertiveness.
Resource Management - Management of data, budget, contracts and time.
Network. Law Enforcement or Military background advantageous but not essential – a strong network in the Security sector is invaluable though.
Flexibility and Travel. Ability to respond outside routine hours and be prepared to travel 15 to 20% of the time.
Education and Qualifications. Knowledge of international security standards and accreditations essential. Business or management qualifications highly desirable.
