The Role

Accelerate development and deployment of multimodal and multi-agent conversational AI systems. You’ll work with a group of research scientists and engineers on a mission-driven team with high agency in a fast-paced environment. Together, you will apply ML and other computational techniques to a wide range of challenging medical problems.

Collaborate with researchers and engineers to build scalable infrastructure for research deployments of medical AI systems, respecting all aspects of domain-specific compliance.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, develop and implement high-performance systems for AI in medicine and health or other high-compliance requirement safety-critical systems
• Lead full-stack implementation, from front-end, back-end, to the agentic AI system, to deliver high quality products utilizing frontier multimodal language models and other related technology
• Apply your software engineering expertise to produce high quality, clean, generalisable/reusable and scalable code and infrastructure components to tackle meaningful problems in medical AI
• Collaborating with research scientists and research engineers in the team to ensure system safety and reliability and be highly collaborative, striving to cultivate a culture of continuous development and advancement.
• Implement tools, libraries and frameworks, and build on existing systems, to speed up and enable new research and deployments.
• Employ cutting-edge technology and techniques to contribute to solving some of the hardest problems.
• Incorporate your passion for advancing human health and any previous knowledge or academic experience to join a team of hardworking individuals who openly collaborate with one another.

About You

Software Engineers come from a diverse set of backgrounds, sometimes with degrees in Computer Science and sometimes with extensive experience with real problems, or both. 

In order to set you up for success as a Software Engineer at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

• Experience developing and deploying an end-to-end LLM-powered system, and/or multi-agent and multimodal models including audio and video 
• Dedicated software engineer with 2+ years of experience writing maintainable, high-quality backend or fullstack code for scalable systems
• Experience with real-time audio-video streaming software and multi-agent systems
• Hands on experience with prompt engineering, multi-agent orchestration and/or data-pipeline and evaluation methodologies for large language models
• Proven ability to work independently as a product-driven engineer, solving for complex product specifications with minimal supervision

In addition, the following would be an advantage: 

• Experience with Google internal and Google Cloud tech stack
• Experience optimising large-scale training and fine-tuning large models.
• Proven experience in Python, C++, and interoperability between the two.
• Experience contributing your skills in scientific research.
• Experience with compliant enterprise product development and data management in production.
