Responsible for assessment of Absence Management (AMS) appeals and the delivery of fair and balanced decisions in a timely manner. As part of the role, you will be responsible for collaborating with COE Absence Management and Disability teams. This includes providing feedback on trends and coaching and mentoring Absence and Disability Case Managers on their evaluations and the management of cases.

Dependent on experience - the successful candidate may also be involved in assessing and managing Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD) and Life Waiver (LW) appeals.


As an Appeals Specialist, your reviews will reflect appropriate analysis of program or contractual requirements, medical, and functional evidence; the application of ‘right tool, right time’ management; and the delivery of well-supported, fair decisions; All reliant on your thorough knowledge and expertise in disability case management and Manulife's National Disability Best Practices.

Your strong organizational abilities are required to consistently provide well-balanced fair decisions within a high volume, time-sensitive environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a vital requirement of this position as you will provide benefit decisions to varied parties and will manage relationships with our customers and our varied teams of professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide optimum levels of leadership, encouragement, training and support to help others succeed while maintaining a positive and innovative atmosphere

  • Develop and maintain relationships with the teams and key stakeholders

  • Develop and comply with the systems, procedures, rules, objectives and timescales set by the organization and take a disciplined approach when undertaking tasks

  • Drive business and service outcomes

Qualifications

  • A university degree in a relevant field

  • Deep knowledge of disability products, processes, and best practices.

  •  2-3 years of proven coaching, mentoring and talent developing

  • Background in disability management, case management, health care related fields primarily.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

  • Ability to manage changing workflows with ease.

  • Strong multitasking skills and the ability to deliver under tight deadlines.

  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a client-focused approach.

  • Business savvy and adaptability in high-pressure situations.

  • Team-oriented mindset with a knack for collaboration in fast-paced environments

  • Ability to assess, negotiate and influence – different clients, differing needs

Salary range is expected to be between

$57,675.00 CAD - $96,125.00 CAD
