Job Title: Manager – Estimating Manager

Position Summary:

The Manager – Estimating is responsible for leading the estimating function, overseeing the development of accurate and competitive project estimates while managing a team of estimators and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. This role involves strategic planning, leadership of bid efforts, customer relationship management, and ensuring consistent execution of estimating processes across all projects. The Estimating Manager plays a critical role in supporting business development and ensuring financial success through accurate cost forecasting and value-based estimating.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the estimating team in preparing detailed and accurate electrical estimates for construction projects.
  • Assign estimating responsibilities, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Conduct team performance reviews, provide coaching, and support professional development.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of complete bid packages to executive leadership.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy across all estimates, including take-offs, pricing, and scope alignment.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures and best practices for the estimating department.
  • Drive bid strategies and decisions, analyze risks, and implement measures to mitigate gaps or scope issues.
  • Lead hard bid processes from inception to final submission, including internal kickoff meetings and bid reviews.
  • Set and monitor targets for bid success rate (goal of 25% or higher).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-level estimate discussions with clients, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and timely delivery.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews as needed.
  • Ensure the development of accurate quantity take-offs and scope documents.
  • Oversee negotiation of fixture/gear pricing and vendor coordination.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and logs for all bid projects, tracking performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of ethical estimating practices and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in estimating operations.
  • Contribute to broader business development efforts by identifying leads and supporting pursuit strategies.
  • Develop clear instructions to bidders, scope sheets, and bid documentation.
  • Operate independently without reliance on administrative support for estimating functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and company goals.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of estimating experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, electrical systems, and project delivery methods.
  • Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage deadlines, and maintain high-quality output under pressure.
