NOW HIRING: Millerbernd Manufacturing is hiring a Product Design Engineer to join our Transportation & Infrastructure (Pole) team! This role is responsible for multiple projects driving strategic, profitable growth through new product development and existing product improvements. This role includes direct interaction with a broad range of internal senior, technical and functional leadership as well as our customers’ teams, to include Departments of Transportation, Specifying Engineers, Cities, Counties, and Municipalities.

Job Title: Product Design Engineer
Location: onsite in Winsted, MN
Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 per year (Exempt)
(In compliance with Minnesota Pay Transparency Law, this range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and other factors.)
Shift Schedule: 1st shift Monday – Friday Business Hours
Shift Differential: 1st shift – N/A

As a Product Design Engineer, you will:

  • Develop new products optimized for Millerbernd capabilities while serving the needs of the market
  • Enhance designs of existing products, optimizing Millerbernd capabilities
  • Consolidate designs to limit variability
  • AASHTO knowledgebase resource
  • Technical drafting support
  • Responsible for day-to-day development and project management of new products, APL’s, QPL’s and specified products, as well as communication with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure successful project execution is met
  • Ensure that projects are on schedule, on scope and on budget
  • Lead project teams to ensure the quality of project deliverables matches the business strategy
  • Identify risks (cost, quality, schedule) to project deliverables, clearly communicate those risks to stakeholders and develop plans to minimize those risks
  • Engage with sales team for product and market requirements
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure equipment is reliable and meets quality and cost targets. This activity includes design for manufacturability for new products as well as engagement with Methods, Drafting, Manufacturing Engineering, and Professional Engineering
  • Support transition of design concepts, detailed design and product release information to manufacturing partners internal or external
  • Provide ongoing technical/engineering influence with manufacturing partners internal and external
  • Complete design analysis, driving standardization and efficiency into the market development process
  • Results driven – drive projects to performance in a timely manner
  • Professionalism, integrity, and high degree of accountability
  • Accountability for the timeline to ensure commitments are honored
  • Influence teams to develop creative solutions to technical problems
  • Strong communication skills across the organization with project teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership

Role Qualifications as a Product Design Engineer

  • Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • A strong understanding of project management principles and software tools; PMP certification is a plus
  • Functional skills in CAD, especially Solid Works
  • Subject matter expert in mechanical engineering and design
  • Maintain broad knowledge of product design, manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Possess strong research and analysis skills
  • Ability and willingness to take a “hands-on” approach to meeting project scope and timing including assisting project team members in completion of deliverables as needed
  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate customer specifications and industry standards
  • Ability to solve practical problems and make decisions
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Work with others as part of a high-performance team
  • Adaptable to changing work priorities 
  • Remaining positive in challenging work environments
