The BD Excellence & Business Transformation team is seeking a Director, Operations Strategy for BD's Medication Management Solutions (MMS) business unit. This critical leadership role will oversee the Operations Strategy team—a dynamic group of management consultants, strategists, change experts, and analysts—focused on solving cross-functional business challenges and driving breakthrough improvements across MMS. This individual will report directly to the VP, BD Excellence & Business Transformation. The Director will lead high-impact initiatives such as the Breakthrough Improvement Engine and the Gross Profit Task Force (GPTF), ensuring MMS achieves best-in-class operational and financial performance. This role requires a highly influential leader capable of autonomously engaging executive-level stakeholders, managing a high-performing team, and delivering measurable results aligned with BD’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor the Operations Strategy team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Empower the team to identify, scope, and resolve complex business problems across MMS and BD’s matrixed organization.

  • Drive accountability for delivering high-impact solutions that align with MMS’s strategic priorities.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Oversee the Breakthrough Improvement Engine, a new prioritization process and governance structure aimed at helping MMS identify and solve the biggest cross-functional challenges preventing the business from achieving excellence. Ensure opportunities move from idea phase to execution rapidly, helping the business continuously push towards excellence.

  • Manage the Gross Profit Task Force (GPTF) program to ensure MMS achieves industry-leading gross profit levels. Provide overall strategic leadership and guidance for numerous cross-functional global workstreams, partnering closely with Finance and the BD Enterprise Acceleration Office to ensure forward progress on operational and financial results. Align GPTF initiatives with BD’s enterprise-wide objectives.

  • Define, govern, and continuously improve the Operating Rhythm of the MMS business, ensuring the MMS Worldwide President and MMS Leadership Team are operating effectively and efficiently and all executive-level forums and key strategic processes are streamlined, aligned, and achieving desired outcomes.

  • Lead change management for the broader BD Excellence & Business Transformation organization, supporting efforts spanning operating model changes, technology and analytical advancements, and process improvements.

  • Develop robust cases for large-scale technology enablement and operational transformation-focused projects, inclusive of impact / financial projections, scope, roadmap, and change management strategies.

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, providing recommendations, insights and solutions to leadership to inform and guide strategic direction, while also ensuring a unified voice and aligned priorities across business units and team members.

  • Distill complex multi-year programs into actionable short-term projects.

  • Lead complex, cross-functional transformation initiatives to enable the achievement of business unit goals.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across operations, finance, platforms, quality, regulatory, technology, medical affairs, service, and global commercial functions to implement scalable solutions.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives and cross-functional leaders to secure alignment and support for key initiatives, inclusive of the Global MMS Leadership Team.

  • Act as a thought leader and trusted advisor on operational strategy and performance improvement.

  • Work cross-functionally within the BD Excellence & Business Transformation organization to ensure alignment of strategies and best-in-class execution for key strategic initiatives spanning process, technology, operating model, and analytics optimization.

Operational Excellence

  • Utilize advanced analytics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency.

  • Leverage Lean Six Sigma and Agile methodologies to drive efficient and effective operations and model what good looks like for the broader organization.

  • Continuously scan the internal company (within BD) and outside the organization (across industry groups and benchmarks) to identify best-in-class and push the broader team to achieve excellence.

  • Ensure all initiatives are executed on time, within budget, and deliver measurable outcomes in line with MMS’s goals.
