In this rewarding opportunity you will join the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) team as our newly created Theatre Revenue Officer in our Revenue department at our Fitzroy / East Melbourne / Kew / Werribee campus.
This role will be full time and have the opportunity to develop their skills. The role is ideal for a Billings Officer or someone who thrives on improving process and influencing real change within a hospital setting.

POSITION PURPOSE
The Revenue Department is responsible for patient health fund eligibility confirmations; patient estimates; processing all hospital patient claims in accordance with health fund contractual agreements; receipting of payments from funds and patients; collection of outstanding debt from both patients and health funds; liaising with patients, doctors surgeries and other internal stakeholders as required. This position is also responsible for the processing of sundry revenue and fundraising and donations management.
The purposes of the Theatre Revenue Officer are:
- To facilitate a single service point of accountability within procedural services environments (i.e. Theatre, Cardiac Cath Labs, Endoscopy, etc.) for prosthesis, rebatable items and loan sets data capture.
- To co-ordinate the initial capture and reporting of theatre data for use in correct charging and recording of inventories consumption, both rebatable and consumable.
- To ensure reported usage of item numbers, prosthesis, rebatables and loan set fees or other recoverable items is accurate prior to forwarding to the facility’s Revenue team.
- To assist in the billing of other ad-hoc activities which may include billing related activities for both Cath Lab (ECHO Billing) and Maternity (Medicare CTG Billing).
- The role also has a dotted line to the CFO – Victorian Private Hospitals and will have the opportunity to work on key projects that deliver value to the business.

- Ensures that those items used in procedures that are listed on the Commonwealth Prostheses Benefit Schedule are recorded in the Hospital Data Base with correct Rebate Code
- Ensures all reports for usage by procedure are accurate and follow through and amend errors or omissions prior to forwarding to Patient Billing
- Ensures any discoveries of errors in reported usage are resolved and appropriate action taken regarding patient billing and inventory replacement, and if unable to resolve bring them to the attention of the Revenue Manager,
- Assists with the accurate and timely notification of consignment and loan set usage to supplier and liaise regarding any anomalies
- Ensure all opportunities for improvements in timeliness and accuracy of patient billing information being provided are investigated and where agreed by the Team Leader, are implemented
- Data Entry of Allied Health invoices
- Check supplier invoice costs match patient health fund rebate contract pricing (as changes from time to time)
- Willingness to undertake further educational and training to achieve revenue objectives
- Actively market revenue within the organization
- Any other duties as required by the Commercial Manager, Revenue Manager and/or the Hospital’s Executive.
- Employee complies with the requirements of the WH&S Act and all relevant WHS, and injury management policies and procedures where industrial agreements required are met
- RiskMan is used to report hazards and any workplace injuries.
SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience within a patient accounts/materials management environment
- Previous experience working within hospital procedural services environments (i.e. Theatre, Cardiac Cath Labs, Endoscopy, etc.) or Central Sterilising Services Department environment
- Experience and skills working with and charging of prosthesis, rebatable items and loan sets in a private healthcare environment
- Ability to interpret the health requirements with respect to accounting, revenue and billing policies
- Experience and skills using a recognised PAS or a financial management information system in a large organisation and advanced user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Skills in health specific patient billing system would be an advantage.
- Experience in a large complex organisation preferably with a strong record of achievement in revenue management in the health environment.
- Well-developed written communication skills and ability to critically analyse information and prepare concise reports for management.
- A high level of effectiveness in a team-based environment and an ability to work autonomously
- Previous health Fund or hospital experience an advantage
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of the health insurance industry
- Knowledge of the provisions of the Australian Heath Care Agreement and Medicare
- A tertiary qualification and/or meet the requirements to be a member of a recognised Australian professional body would be an advantage
- Excellent Communication Skills
- Excellent computer Skills
