Role Overview

Are you a rising star in the Jewish professional world, or do you aspire to be? Do you see resource development as a critical function of Hillel’s success? Hillel of Colorado seeks a full-time Development Director to begin in Summer 2025. Reporting to the Executive Director, this key team member will lead all fundraising efforts except Major Gift and Legacy campaigns, which they will support. As part of the Leadership Team, the Director will develop and execute a multi-pronged fundraising strategy for a thriving statewide Hillel serving 2,000+ Jewish students across multiple campuses. They will oversee appeals, campaigns, donor cultivation, grassroots fundraising, and special events while launching Hillel’s first alumni fundraising initiative.

Based at The Merage & Allon Hillel Center near the University of Denver, the Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Assistant Director, Marketing Manager, and Bookkeeper to enhance financial sustainability and expand Hillel’s presence on additional campuses. Their leadership will help ensure Jewish student life continues to thrive, providing welcoming, vibrant communities where students can stay proudly Jewish and engaged in their heritage during these critical times.

What You’ll Do

  • Development & Implement Strategy: in partnership with the Executive Director, design a comprehensive annual development plan to maintain and enhance Hillel’s fiscal health and implement that plan through clear processes that include daily oversight of fundraising goals.
  • Steward & Donor Engagement: institutionalize and implement a stewardship plan that (i) provides support to current donor stewards; (ii) significantly increases the number of stewarded donors; and (iii) identifies new major gift prospects and their stewards, while personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of mid-level donors and curating a portfolio of major donors for the ED and key board members.
  • Campaigns and Appeals: support the Assistant Director and Marketing Manager as they implement Hillel’s twice/year crowdfunding (digital appeals) through tools such as email, text messaging, social media, direct mail, and snail mail. Assure these annual campus and community appeals are well-integrated into the overall Development and Marketing plans to ensure campus development success.
  • Back Office: work with the Marketing Manager and Bookkeeper to ensure Hillel’s Little Green Light (LGL) donor database is curated, up-to-date, accurate, and captured donor data and interactions to ensure Hillel employs best practices in record-keeping across the development and financial operations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Be an integral part of Hillel’s staff leadership team.
  • Attend Board of Trustees and Budget & Finance Committee meetings, and staff the Board Development Committee.
  • Establish sustaining relationships with potential, current, and past donors in Colorado and beyond.
  • Initiate and staff our first-ever alumni fundraising campaign that will become a major source of advocacy and income for Hillel, including reaching out to university alumni and development departments, and moderating university-specific and geographic-specific groups on Hillel International’s Jewish Career Network platform.
  • Along with other leadership team members, represent Hillel in the community to raise Hillel’s profile.
  • When necessary, plan and execute Hillel of Colorado fundraising events in coordination with the Executive Director and Assistant Director.

Who You Are

  • You have a college degree from an accredited institution. An advanced degree is a bonus.
  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years working in development or a closely related field. Nonprofit experience or employment in a mission-driven organization is a bonus.
  • You see yourself as a leader and have work experience that prepares you to be on a leadership team.
  • You have demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills and are proficient in Microsoft Suite applications, CRM, and data management. Experience with LGL is a bonus.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Commitment to Hillel’s vision, mission, values, and goals including pluralism and diverse Jewish life choices, and an ability to connect people’s passions and interests to Hillel.
  • Knowledge of and passion for Jewish community culture, heritage, and traditions, and a familiarity with the Jewish calendar and religious practice.
  • An awareness of current trends in the Jewish community and in the philanthropic field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability as a self-starter, comfort working independently, and a desire to collaborate within our team culture.
  • Curiosity, a strong work ethic, a sense of humor, and a willingness to take risks and learn from mistakes.
  • Accomplished project management, problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills – and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. Salary range of $70,000-$80,000 commensurate with experience.
  • Health insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, long-term disability (LTD), vacation/sick time, and generous parental leave.
  • A flexible work schedule.
  • The chance to wake up every day knowing you can make a real and lasting difference in the world and in the lives of your students.
  • Paid opportunities for professional development, peer engagement, mentoring, and skill-building.
  • A supportive and committed board of lay leaders and a passionate alumni base.

About Hillel of Colorado

Hillel of Colorado inspires Jewish students to cultivate a lifelong connection to Jewish life, learning, and Israel. As an independent 501(c)3 affiliated with Hillel International, it serves over 2,000 Jewish students across metro Denver and northern Colorado, providing a welcoming, pluralistic community. With hubs at the University of Denver (DU) and Colorado State University (CSU), as well as a newly established presence at Denver’s Auraria Campus, Hillel fosters student leadership, Jewish learning, and social engagement. Programs include Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, and campus-wide events, offering students meaningful opportunities to connect with their heritage and peers. Plans are also underway to expand to the Colorado School of Mines in 2025.

At DU, Hillel engages more than 400 students annually, with weekly events and large holiday gatherings, while at CSU, participation has grown to over 300 students per year. Shabbat dinners attract 30-60 students on average, with major events drawing up to 200 attendees. CSU Hillel’s large-scale programs, such as Holocaust remembrance events and interfaith gatherings, engage more than 1,000 students. Hillel continues to expand its reach, ensuring Jewish students across Colorado’s campuses have a vibrant, supportive community that enhances their college experience and strengthens their Jewish identity.
