Description

The Security/Medical Responder will have the sole responsibility to respond to all Independent Living PET (resident personal safety alarms) and Emergency calls on campus, as well as Security Patrol Officer to ensure the safety & security of all residents, staff and visitors on campus. Must have basic EMT Certification OR Certified in Frist Aide, CPR, AED.

Job Relationships

1. Reports to the Security Supervisor and works closely with the Nursing Department.

Security / Medical Responder: Duties and Responsibilities

1. Must have current EMT-B Certification or combination of First Aid/CPR/AED and maintain these certifications throughout employment at Arbor Acres.

2. Responds to all IL emergency and PET calls and determines the status of the call.

• If it is determined that it is a real emergency, the Security/Medical Responder will begin the assessment of the resident and determine if 911 is necessary. They will provide the care that is allowed through their scope of practice training, with the exception of emergency drugs and intubation.
• The Security/Medical Responder will be responsible for documenting each emergency call in the Electronic Medical Record.
• If the Security/Medical Responder comes upon a resident who is in need of CPR, if CPR should be initiated, call Nursing immediately for backup.
• The Security/Medical Responder will also monitor fire alarms, cameras and all other emergency codes.

3. Security/Medical Responder shall make continuous patrols when not engaged in dispatched calls. Patrol duties include, but not limited to (expectations in Security Protocol book);

• Vehicle/Foot patrol
• Building checks
• Equipment checks

4. While on patrol, Security/Medical Responder shall look for and report safety/security concerns in the community (buildings, grounds, etc.)

5. Provide assistance to nursing if needed and within scope of practice Lift, turning, Altered Mental Status, etc.)

6. Responding to unlocks, escorts, direct traffic, and other forms of support.

7. Will monitor traffic flow and speed detection

8. Perform light maintenance duties during off hours, including but not limited to;

• Shutting water off
• Help with TVs and remotes
• Change light bulbs
• Plunge toilet
• Etc.

9. Help with snow removal if needed.

10. Wanderguard door checks.

11. Required to train and work in the Welcome Center to allow for breaks or fill shifts.

Typical Physical Demands

• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to handle exposure to severe weather. Must report to work even in inclement weather.
• Must be able to handle high amounts of stress.
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Security / Medical Responder: Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Must be able to communicate with residents, family members, staff and emergency personnel.

2. Must be flexible with working hours.

3. Strong verbal communication skills. The ability to read, write, understand, and speak English

Minimum Education

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

1. At least two years experience preferred.

2. Must have basic EMT Certification Or Certified in Frist Aide, CPR, AED

License and/or Certification Required

1. NC Drivers License. Demonstrated safe driving record.

2. CPR certification required within three months of employment.
