II.     SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE

III.    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Licensed as a Louisiana Registered Nurse.
    
2. EXPERIENCE – Two (2) years experience as a Registered Nurse.
    
3. OTHER REQUIREMENTS – Ancillary Louisiana Teaching Certificate must be acquired within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter in accordance with State Board of Education guidelines.

1. Assists schools in maintaining student health records.
    
2. Assists in verifying state required immunizations of students.
    
3. Performs vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening according to state guidelines.
    
4. Develops individualized emergency/health plans on identified medically fragile students as necessary and shares this information with appropriate school personnel.
    
5. Serves as a resource person in the identification of possible communicable diseases at the school site and takes appropriate action.
    
6. Supervises the administration of medications in the schools.
    
7. Conducts planned in-service/training for school personnel and students.
    
8. Serves as a liaison between the parents, teachers, and other school personnel in matters of health.
    
9. Helps formulate policies and procedures in conjunction with the school nurse coordinator, supervisors and directors related to health issues as needed.
    
10. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc.  Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents.; Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
     
11. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management.  Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
     
12. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.  Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
     
13. Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:

       • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions
       • Lesson Plans
       • Instruction
       • Collaborate with colleagues and departments
       • Grade papers
       • Take and record attendance
       • Enter/Average grades
       • Maintain positive and timely interaction with parents relative to the performance or conduct of students assigned to the teacher
         
         
          
    2. Supervision
       
       
        
       • Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
       • Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
       • Supervision of students in the classroom 
       • Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
       • Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned
         
         
          
    3. Non-instructional Components
       
       
        
       • Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
       • Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
       • Attend training sessions
       • Attend IEP meetings
       • Attend parent-teacher conferences
       • Attend back-to-school and open-house events
       • Attend graduation
       • Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
       • Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request
         
         
          
    4. Extracurricular Activities
       
       
        
       • Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
       • Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
         
          
14. Performs other duties as required.
