We are looking for a talented Test Operations Senior Technician - Lab Ops to join our team specializing in Engineering for our DTO Product Development Department in Darlington, United Kingdom.
This is an onsite role with a rotational shift. Rotating 4 Week Shift Pattern of 12 Hour Shifts (7am - 7pm / 7pm - 7am)

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Test Cell Uptime Optimization: Conducts trouble shooting and fault finding to keep test cells running efficiently and minimize downtime.
- Engine Preparation and Diagnostics: You will conduct teardowns, rebuilds, and fault rectification to ensure engines are test-ready and issues are addressed promptly.
- Collaborative Team Support: You will actively support colleagues with engine installations and part changes to boost overall productivity and teamwork.
- Accurate Data Recording: Document torque settings, wear conditions, and other key data to support engineering analysis and traceability.
- Advanced Equipment Operation: You will operate systems like AVL PUMA and combustion analysers to ensure precise testing and reliable data acquisition.
- Technical Insight and Innovation: You will apply your deep knowledge of diesel engines and emissions systems to improve testing processes and outcomes.
- Work shift patterns as required by 24/7 business needs
Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Strong Mechanical and Diagnostic Skills: You need hands-on experience with engine teardowns, rebuilds, and fault diagnosis to ensure engines are prepared and tested accurately and efficiently.
- Technical Knowledge and Tool Proficiency: You should be familiar with diesel engines, emissions systems, and test cell systems like AVL PUMA, as well as combustion analyzers and gaseous measurement equipment.
- Teamwork and Communication: You must be able to work collaboratively, support colleagues across test cells, and communicate clearly to maintain smooth operations and maximize cell utilization.
- Flexibility and Commitment: You need to be adaptable to shift work and committed to maintaining high standards in a fast-paced, 24/7 testing environment.
Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
- ONC/HNC mechanical engineering or equivalent or extensive relevant experience. Working towards HNC or equivalent would be considered
- Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
The compensation for this role is aligned with a local bargained or unionized agreement
