Salary Range: $130,00 - $150,800

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Direct and manage the maintenance, repair and servicing of locomotives. Coordinate activities between the train yard and service track.
• Motivate and supervise subordinates regarding safe, high quality repairs to, locomotives in order to increase equipment availability and reliability with FRA, AAR, METRA, and BNSF standards, and other regulatory AAR laws and rules.
• Plan operating budget, manpower and material requirements. Monitor and control labor and material costs in accordance with budget constraints. Responsible for meeting daily production and backlogs.
• Direct and supervise re-railing or handling emergencies. Investigate and report on mechanical aspects of locomotive and other emergency conditions.
• Provide technical assistance and keep abreast of component technology.
• Provide ongoing review of Mechanical Operations to identify productivity improvement opportunities and repair plans.
• Provide guidance and direction for areas of responsibility including supervising subordinate staff, coordinating, planning and scheduling locomotive/car maintenance and repair activities.
• Maintain inside contact with local chairmen of unions regarding locomotive defects and labor problems, and outside contact with FRA and AAR Inspectors.
• Oversee all aspects of billing, maintaining production levels and quality. Implement all aspects of company policy to Mechanical Department group of workmen.
• Work with computerized systems and report to effect improved performance/cost reductions. Monitor the promptness and accuracy of data input.
• Liaise with Metra leadership to ensure mechanical is providing necessary support to commuter operations
• Schedule and hold investigations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience as a Craftsperson or Mechanical Foreman required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of locomotives and/or cars, FRA & AAR regulations and BNSF standards required.
• Must be able to motivate subordinates.
• Must have an understanding of AAR and FRA rules, union agreements, locomotive maintenance and repair.
• Extensive knowledge of company operations relative to the locomotive/car department is required.
• Must have five years experience as a fist line supervisor.
• Thorough understanding of the application of shop craft labor contracts.
• Excellent communication skills and leadership capabilities needed to develop, motivate and lead high performance teams.
• Organized, articulate and able to resolve complex problems with only minimum information and in a timely manner.
• Sixty percent of duties are performed in the field. Therefore, must be physically able to ascend ladders and traverse uneven walking surfaces.
• Subject to call and must respond to emergencies at any time.
• Must possess the ability to hold and schedule investigations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• College preferred
• Understand hazmat response and containment.
• Advanced analytical, economic, financial and statistical abilities desired.
