Are you an experienced Legal Office Assistant looking to join a dynamic team of individuals that are dedicated to fighting for justice on behalf of the citizens of Nevada County? If so, we want to meet you!

The District Attorney's Office is seeking a Senior Legal Office Assistant to support the prosecution of criminal cases and be the lead of our legal office assistant team. This position primarily focuses on the procurement and management of digital evidence discovery. Our legal office assistant team is the first line of contact with the public and involves direct interaction our customers, external collaborators, and members of the public requiring strong communication skills. Additionally, you will manage the intake and data entry of law enforcement reports from local and state agencies into the case management system. As a Senior LOA, you will be leading other administrative processes including pre-filing diversion programs, agency and court calendars, and data quality control. 

Responsibilities:
  • Manage digital discovery processes, both inbound and outbound, for body worn camera evidence.
  • Read, understand, and implement record retention policies for digital media.
  • Input law enforcement reports from local and state agencies into the case management system.
  • Serve as the initial contact for the public and our justice partners, offering information, resolving problems, and handling relationships.
  • Lead administrative processes such as pre-filing diversion programs, agency and court calendars, and data quality control.
Requirements:
  • Experience as a Legal Office Assistant or comparable role.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in using computer systems and software. Familiarity with various file types and their relative sizes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Other Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED or high school proficiency certificate

Experience: Two (2) years of legal clerical or office assistant experience at a level comparable to Nevada County’s classification of Legal Office Assistant II.  

-Senior LOAs assigned to some offices must have completed P.O.S.T. law enforcement clerk course (e.g., Basic Law Enforcement Records Course), or must successfully complete it within the first 12 months of appointment. Senior LOAs must also have completed required CLETS training at time of application or successfully obtain certification within the first 90 days of appointment.

Licenses and Certificates:

-Some positions may require typing at a net rate of 40 wpm.
-Completion of P.O.S.T. law enforcement clerk course (e.g., Basic Law Enforcement Records Course) within the first 12 months of employment. Possession of CLETS certification required for certain positions, as noted on the job announcement, within the first 90 days of appointment.
