Metro owns and operates a variety of regional facilities, venues, parks, natural areas and other public sites. The Capital Asset Management (CAM) department provides the framework for how Metro approaches asset management, construction project management, and operations for these public assets.
This position is located at the Metro Regional Center (MRC). The MRC serves as the main administrative office for over 500 employees conducting Metro and Metro Council business. As the first building in Metro’s unique portfolio to achieve LEED certification, the MRC has recently been transformed into a modern hybrid workplace. Employees enjoy features such as reservable desks, wellness spaces, plant walls, open seating areas, interactive multimedia meeting rooms, a fitness center, rooftop patio deck, a daycare, parking garage and updated building systems.
The Campus Operations Team is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to maintain the Metro Regional Center campus. This key position ensures that the facilities meet the business needs of the staff who utilize it and provide a safe, welcoming environment for all. If you are skilled in facilities and equipment maintenance and excel at problem-solving while ensuring that customers’ needs are met, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
As the Facilities Maintenance Technician you will:
- Preform hands-on maintenance, repairing, monitoring and troubleshooting for a wide range of building systems and equipment at the Metro Regional Center campus. Some of the systems would including HVAC, fire suppression and alarm, electrical, plumbing, elevators, lighting, furniture, fixtures, office equipment, interior spaces & surfaces, landscaping/irrigation, automatic doors and gates, façade and fleet.
- Work on diverse tasks that keep your day varied, including both indoors and outdoors maintenance projects, event and meeting support, parking enforcement, contractor work and campus improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with broad range of staff, building relationships while helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations by setting up spaces, solving on-the-spot issues, and responding to unique workplace needs.
- Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance and repair of operations equipment like vehicles, forklifts, power tools, pressure washers, generators, compressors and other related mechanical equipment. This could include coordinating with on-call vendors.
- Use modern tools like a CMMS system and tablets to track and schedule preventative maintenance and manage work orders, helping to keep systems running efficiently.
- Be part of a responsive team that supports the organization during urgent situations—ranging from HVAC or power issues to weather-related events—playing a vital role in maintaining a safe and functional work environment.
- Provide support to a variety of operational tasks, from managing sale of surplus property and restocking building supplies to coordinating inspections and supporting sustainability initiatives.
- Using your broad skillset of experience you will have the opportunity to provide other maintenance support with a variety of tasks like EV charger troubleshooting, scheduling motor pool vehicle maintenance, painting, plumbing, key control, moving supplies, driving a forklift, serving as a committee member, receiving and unloading shipments, jump starting vehicles and ordering supplies.
- Occasionally, you’ll fill in for other team members, gaining experience and insight into different aspects of facilities operations.

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications
- Two years of related maintenance, repair or construction experience similar to the position duties and responsibilities and,
- High school diploma or GED certificate or,
- Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.
- Valid driver’s license
Special Requirements: To be obtained within 6 months of hire:
- Forklift certification
If you were terminated for cause during any employment with Metro, or resigned in lieu of termination, you may be ineligible for rehire for a minimum of 3 years.
Like to have qualifications
You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider them when identifying the most qualified candidates. Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience, including the military, or life experience that are relevant for this position.
- Knowledge of electricity, landscaping, building maintenance and mechanics.
- Skill in word processing, spreadsheet and email applications, preferably within the Microsoft Office Suite.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATON
The full-salary range for this position is step 1: $29.72 to step 7: $39.84 per hour. However, unless a candidate’s qualifications justify, based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements and Metro’s internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between step 1: $29.72 to the equity range step 4: $34.41 per hour.
This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by AFSCME union. It is classified as a Facilities Maintenance Technician.
