Job Summary:
Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and controlling cost inputs related to the production of corn and soybean products. The Cost Accountant will ensure the accurate calculation of Cost of Goods Made (COGM) and maintain integrity in the company’s inventory valuation and cost reporting. This role will collaborate closely with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to interpret and communicate cost trends, provide insights to support pricing and profitability decisions, and contribute to continuous improvement in cost control processes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Review, analyze, and reconcile production cost inputs, including materials, labor, and overhead.
- Ensure accurate and timely calculation of monthly and quarterly Cost of Goods Made (COGM) and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
- Monitor and validate inventory movements and valuations to ensure alignment with production and accounting records.
- Develop and maintain standard costs, review variances, and investigate significant fluctuations.
- Collaborate with Operations and Procurement to understand cost drivers and support cost-reduction initiatives.
- Prepare cost trend analyses and provide meaningful insights to the Commercial team for pricing, margin, and forecasting decisions.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, focusing on production and material cost assumptions.
- Support internal and external audit requirements related to cost accounting and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Support continuous improvement in cost reporting systems, tools, and processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Solid understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with data analysis tools.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations and commercial teams.
- Commitment to integrity, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred
- Five (5) or more years’ experience in cost accounting, preferably in an agricultural, manufacturing, or food production environment.
- CPA preferred
- Experience with SAP preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost flows and inventory valuation under US GAAP or IFRS.
- Must have valid driver license and meet MVR guidelines
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
