Essential Job Statements
Perform neurovascular ultrasound procedures upon licensed independent practitioner (LIP) order, including: Imaging and non-imaging Transcranial Doppler (TCD). Carotid duplex ultrasonography
Basic emboli detection or vasospasm screening as defined by protocol
Select appropriate transducers and settings for cerebral and cervical imaging.
Apply ALARA and patient safety principles.
Obtain and corroborate patient history to ensure proper exam.
Educate patients/families using age-appropriate communication.
Accurately document exams and deviations from protocol.
Complete post-processing, image display, PACS transfer, and order closure in a timely manner.
Recognize and escalate urgent findings to LIP or clinical team.
Participate in training, peer collaboration, and professional growth activities.
Maintain a clean, safe work environment and support ultrasound equipment maintenance.
Patient Population: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Adults (18-64 years). Geriatrics (65 years and older)
Employment Qualifications
Required Education: Graduation from a CAAHEP or CMA-accredited program in medical, cardiac, or vascular sonography OR a 2-year JRC-accredited program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Sciences, Neurosciences, or Sonography
Licensing/ Certification
Licensure/Certification Required: One or more of the following: ARRT(S), RDMS, CCI, or RVT
Licensure/Certification Preferred: NVS certification – or willingness to obtain within 12 months (institutional support may be provided) Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience: One (1) year of previous work experience as a Sonographer/Technologist

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Experience in neurovascular imaging or working in stroke/neurology settings
Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. * May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. * May have periods of constant interruptions. Prolonged periods of working alone.
