Description
- Provide emotional support to shelter guests, demonstrating sensitivity and offering non-judgmental, tactful assistance to individuals in crisis.
- Collaborate with case managers on services to clients via documentation, email, and/or verbal communication.
- Intervene in crisis situations using approved methods to promote the safety and well-being of all residents.
- Communicate with supervisors and designated case management staff regarding pertinent client issues.
- Participate in system data collection accurately, completely, and timely, and complete ITS forms as required.
- Conduct client intakes, including reviewing shelter policies, providing tours of the facility, completing intake paperwork, and supplying necessary personal items.
- Monitor supplies such as bedding, towels, and pillows; prepare rooms for new clients.
- Transport clients in company vehicles to and from appointments, meetings, or hospitals.
- Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the facility.
- Conduct client exit interviews as needed.
- Monitor interns and volunteers, providing guidance and support.
- Prepare light meals and assist with meal service.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, sociology, or a similar field with six months of experience in a residential facility, shelter, or similar environment.
- OR an Associate’s Degree with an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of domestic violence and client trauma.
- Familiarity with basic food preparation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong skills in verbal de-escalation and crisis management.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR training and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid.
- Strong communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
- Sensitivity to the language, economic, and cultural needs of clients.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations and attend offsite meetings and events.
- Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries with clients and protecting client confidentiality.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
- CPR certification.
Working Environment:
- Duties are primarily performed in a seated position, with occasional standing or walking.
- Limited physical effort is required, with tasks involving lifting and carrying objects weighing less than 25 lbs.
- Work is conducted in an office environment, but may also involve other locations.
- Flexibility to work some weekends, evenings, and overnight hours as needed.
