We have an exciting opportunity to join us in supporting one of our valued customers as a SMF Exercise Planner, Craftsman to work out of Schriever SFB, CO supporting the Government in the 392d Combat Training Squadron (392 CTS), Information Technology, Operational Testing, and STARCOM Wargames.

Pay: $155,000 - $163,000

Essential Duties:

  • Designs, develops, plans, executes, and assesses United States Space Force (USSF) service-level exercises (e.g., POLARIS HAMMER, SKIES, SPACE FLAG) as listed in USSF’s Service Exercise Plan (SEP).
  • Gathers information, establishes liaisons, and collaborates with key internal and external USSF exercise stakeholders to integrate applicable training requirements into USSF service-level exercises.
  • Prepares, manages, and attends USSF exercise events (e.g., planning conferences, working groups, progress reviews).
  • Reviews previous lessons learned to gather historical activity information; assists training audiences in drafting training objectives for USSF exercises; coordinates with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop USSF exercise scenarios, events, and vignettes; establishes execution events, timelines, and communication requirements; and determines support requirements for applicable activities within each USSF exercise.
  • Integrates the 392 CTS’s current and in-development Modeling and Simulation (M&S) capabilities during exercise development, planning, and execution, as applicable.
  • Identifies gaps and shortfalls in M&S tools needed to provide timely and realistic exercise inputs to satisfy USSF exercise training objectives.
  • Collaborates with 392 CTS USSF Exercise Support Team SMEs, respective Deltas and their associated units, HQ USSF, STARCOM, SpOC, and other agencies to coordinate support and manning requirements for USSF exercises.
  • Leads and participates in USSF Exercise Control Groups (ECG) and White Cells
  • Captures, analyzes, and reports observations and lessons learned identified during the design, planning, and execution of USSF exercises.
  • Supports hot wash debriefs and After Action Report development after each USSF exercise.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and delivers meeting minutes, trip reports, and USSF exercise event-related documents (i.e., exercise planning/execution products, after-action reports, lessons learned) within contractual time frames and IAW approved policies and procedures.
  • Provides budget support to the customer, including but not limited to, projecting current and future budgets for exercises; recommending budgeting guidance for exercises; coordinating with 392 CTS finance representatives for exercise support requiring USSF funds.
  • Prepares and presents exercise and participation information for scheduled USSF exercises during the USSF’s annual and quarterly Exercise Coordination Team (ECT) meetings.
  • Provides accurate responses to 392 CTS tasks within the applicable task order’s scope of work and IAW approved policies and procedures.
  • Completes other tasks directed by contract leadership to ensure 392 CTS mission success

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of space experience 
  • Experience with planning, developing, coordinating, or executing space capabilities in Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), Combatant Commander (CCMD), or Service operations or exercises
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented with excellent time management, problem-solving, risk analysis, and organizational skills
  • Possess strong leadership, negotiation, time management, organization, problem-solving, risk analysis, and team-building skills
  • Aptitude to gather diverse and sometimes opposing stakeholders to work collaboratively to solve complex problems across multiple agencies internal and external to USSF
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to focus on building customer relationships
  • Proven ability to lead large teams in a collaborative, multi-project environment
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines, prioritize work, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously without supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet exercise requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or previous experience in an operational space squadron, Space Delta, the National Space Defense Center (NSDC), or the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC).
  • Understand USSF’s Space Power Disciplines, mission areas, C2 structure, and current space policy and doctrine
  • Qualify for IJSTO/SAP access
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • USAF Weapons School graduate
  • Previous command or operations officer experience
  • Experience using project management or systems engineering processes
  • Previous major exercise experience in support of CCMD and Service level exercises (Pacific Sentry, Global Lightning, Global Thunder, Austere Challenge, Internal Look, Panamax, ACC Flag exercises [Red Flag, Blue Flag, Virtual Flag, Space Flag) or other Department of Defense (DoD) exercises
  • Possesses a working knowledge of tools used for exercise planning such as Joint Training Information Management System (JTIMS), Joint Master Scenario Events List (JMSEL), Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JLLIS), Joint Event Management System (JEMIS)

Education/ Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred: a combination of education and relevant experience may be combined for total years of experience. 

Required Clearance: TS/SCI

Travel: 10% Travel may be required (approximately 60 days/year, depending on the exercise)
