Description

Position Summary

The Human Resources Specialist supports both agricultural and manufacturing operations with a strong focus on employee training, safety, and youth harvest & pickers coordination during harvest seasons.

This position plays a vital role in ensuring all employees—especially seasonal and youth workers—receive effective onboarding, safety instruction, and compliance training. The Specialist promotes a culture of safety, respect while coordinating HR initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting workforce engagement across multiple worksites.

The ideal candidate is bilingual in English and Spanish, approachable, organized, and comfortable working both in the field and the plant.


Key Responsibilities

Training & Development

  • Collaborate with HR & Safety Manager to develop, schedule, and conduct internal Leadership Training Program (LDP) including new hire orientation, safety, compliance, and job-specific training for both agricultural and manufacturing teams.
  • Translate and deliver training materials in English and Spanish to ensure clear communication and full understanding across diverse workforces.
  • Maintain training calendars, attendance, certifications, and documentation for all programs.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to identify training needs and implement continuous learning opportunities.
  • Reinforce company policies, safety protocols, and professional standards during daily interactions with employees.

Safety & Compliance

  • Partner with the HR & Safety Manager and Operations teams to promote a safe and compliant workplace in accordance with OSHA, Labor and Industries, agricultural safety standards and our internal retro program.
  • Coordinate with HR to onboard all new hires with all required safety trainings.
  • Conduct and document field and facility safety inspections, safety committee meetings, monthly safety meetings, and incident investigations.
  • Enter and update all incident and accident reports in systems, investigate accidents as necessary.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation claims, injury reporting, and return-to-work programs.
  • Support employee safety by being visible in the field and plant, addressing questions or concerns promptly.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors for annual Decibel testing, CPR training, and safety supplies.
  • Train all department leads to conduct monthly safety committee meetings, attend frequently to ensure compliance with state and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain accurate employee and training records in HRIS and Alchemy.
  • Update, maintain and distribute all the sandwich boards containing all policies, farm labor contracts and compliance posters including black binders for field leads.
  • Maintain safety and training documentation required for compliance audits.
  • Collaborate with QA Manager on compliance audits, trainings and reports. 
  • Actively participate in safety committees and support implementation of corrective actions.
  • Work alongside HR / Safety Manager on claims management and all LNI safety admin support.

Field Youth Program Coordination

  • Serve as the Field Youth Coordinator during harvest, ensuring all youth workers meet federal and state labor law requirements (including age verification, work hours, and task restrictions).
  • Works alongside HR department, Marketing department and local high schools to recruit minors for each harvest.
  • Attend Field AM meetings to execute daily plan of action and schedule accordingly.
  • Conduct orientations for youth workers emphasizing workplace safety, conduct, and work expectations.
  • Schedule youth workers according to LNI regulations & based on age of minors, pickers, capacity of minor and with the support of parent input.
  • Act as a liaison between parents and minors to ensure a safe, happy and rewarding work experience.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of youth workers during the harvest season.
  • Track youth participation, attendance, and performance while maintaining strict compliance with labor and safety standards.
  • Promote open communication and a positive, respectful work environment.

Qualifications


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Safety, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of HR, training, or safety experience in agriculture or manufacturing required.
  • Experience coordinating youth employment or community programs strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, agricultural labor laws, and youth labor standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong public speaking and training facilitation skills in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities.
  • Experience with creating agendas, training programs, learning and development.
  • Ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with employees of all levels and backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS or training management systems.
  • Ability to travel between field, plant, and office locations as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Regularly works in both field and plant environments.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions during harvest.
  • Requires standing, walking, and conducting training or inspections for extended periods.
  • Occasional flexible hours and weekends during harvest season.
