About the Department
The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical background, excellent knowledge of applicable codes and safety standards, and the ability to clearly communicate with contractors, property owners, engineers, and Town staff.
Position Duties
• Perform inspections of residential, commercial, and public electrical systems for new construction, renovations, and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with approved plans, permits, the Florida Building Code, NEC, and all applicable safety standards.
• Investigate complaints and respond to inquiries involving electrical safety or code violations.
• Document inspection results accurately and issue notices of violation when necessary.
• Work closely with contractors and property owners to explain code requirements and resolve issues.
As a Plans Examiner:
• Review electrical plans, drawings, load calculations, and specifications to verify compliance with applicable codes.
• Coordinate with other disciplines during the review process to ensure comprehensive permit evaluation.
• Identify code deficiencies and provide clear correction comments to applicants.
• Assist in pre-submittal meetings and provide technical guidance to applicants and design professionals.
• Maintain accurate records of plan reviews and correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications
• At least 5 years of experience in electrical trade, electrical inspection, or electrical plan review.
• Must be currently registered with, or can become registered with, the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) within three (3) months of employment as a condition of continued employment.
• Certification as an Electrical Inspector and Electrical Plans Examiner by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB).
• State of Florida Master Electrician License or Journeyman License preferred.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Additional certifications in building, mechanical, or structural disciplines are a plus.
Other Qualifications
• Ability to interpret complex electrical drawings, calculations, and system designs.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to interact effectively with the public, design professionals, contractors, and other municipal staff.
• Skilled in using permitting and inspection software; proficiency with Microsoft Office is also preferred.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
