Mechanic Trainee presso Mass Transportation Authority

POSITION:                 MECHANIC TRAINEE

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mechanic Trainee shall perform work typical of that performed by a Mechanic to service, mainten and repair mechanical parts in transportation support vehicles and equipment.The duties will include working with highly skilled, experienced Mechanics, as appropriate, who will provide instruction and critique of the trainee work. 

SUPERVISED BY:    MANAGER OF MAINTENANCE

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Train to Diagnose and repair problems on Authority vehicles and equipment.
• Train to Perform general maintenance of all Authority equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, adjustment of engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and clutches on gas and diesel equipment; tune up engines, ignition parts, clean and adjust carburetors.
• Train to Perform preventive maintenance and make inspections of vehicles for proper working order and safe operation.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Aptitude to learn the following:
• welding practices and techniques
• diesel and gasoline powered engines
• routine vehicular maintenance
• making mechanical adjustments and repairs
• reading and interpreting technical information
• diagnostics equipment

• The ability to pass background checks for license, criminal and references
• The ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen
• Ability to pass criminal background checks.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma
• A valid Michigan driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Group A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger endorsement.

• Work is performed in multiple facilities and locations, as well as on board MTA vehicles

WAGE:

80% of current contractual wage of Class B Mechanic classification per hour, plus all eligible benefits.
