The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and managing the organization’s data platform, including the systems, models, and standards that ensure data is accurate, accessible, and secure. This role combines deep technical expertise with architectural vision to deliver scalable data pipelines, well-structured data models, and governed data assets that support analytics, automation, and decision-making across the enterprise.


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable data architectures and models that integrate data from multiple systems and support both operational and analytical needs.
  • Evaluate and implement modern data tools and technologies to continuously improve platform scalability, automation, and usability, and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning across the organization.
  • Build, optimize, and manage data pipelines and integrations using modern ETL/ELT frameworks to ensure data is accurate, efficient, and available where needed.
  • Develop and maintain analysis-ready datasets and semantic models that enable secure and governed reporting, fueling our business intelligence tools (Power BI) and advanced analytics.
  • Establish and maintain data governance and cataloging standards, including ownership, lineage, glossary definitions, and lifecycle management.
  • Implement and monitor data quality and validation processes to ensure consistency, completeness, and reliability across all datasets.
  • Manage data security, privacy, and compliance controls, including classification, encryption, and retention aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate across technical and business teams to promote data literacy, uphold best practices, and ensure alignment between data systems and organizational goals.


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:


· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.

· 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related roles.

· Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python (or equivalent scripting language).

· Demonstrated experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

· Hands-on experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT tools, and data warehousing/lakehouse environments.

· Knowledge of data governance, cataloging, lineage, and metadata management concepts and tools.

· Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance principles.

· Proven ability to collaborate across technical and business domains.

· Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills and attention to detail


Desired Qualifications:

· Experience with modern data frameworks (dbt, Data Vault, Delta Lake, Fabric, or Synapse).

· Familiarity with data quality tools (e.g., Great Expectations, Soda, Monte Carlo).

· Experience managing semantic models and datasets for BI platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).

· Exposure to regulated environments (GxP, ISO, or similar).

· Familiarity with CI/CD, version control (Git), and infrastructure-as-code for data environments.
