Community Outreach Specialist (Requires two days of a split shift, 8-12 4-8) chez Horry County Schools

Job Title:      Community Outreach Specialist (Requires two days of a split shift, 8-12 & 4-8)
Supervisor:  Reports to the Building Principal or other appropriate School Administrator

The Horry County Schools Adult Education Community Outreach Specialist will assist the director in expanding the program and meeting additional job responsibilities as described by the recently passed WIOA bill. The ideal candidate would be community oriented, passionate about people and improving their economic and social outlook, and has experience working with culturally diverse populations and extensive experience with disadvantaged/low income population.

Duties and Responsibilities

• creating publications, flyers, circulars
• managing social media
• create and deliver presentations
• network within the community including employers and community, county, and state agencies
• Develop and advertise community education programs based on needs assessments.
• Utilize resources of the educational system and of the community in delivering adult education services
• Develop SNAP and assist in developing YAP education program budget and maintain accurate and complete records.
• Prepare promotional and program materials and maintain a social media presence
• Recruit volunteers
• Evaluate programs and survey staff, community, and students
• Maintain an ongoing student recruitment program
• Assess annually the needs of the public and private sectors of the service area.
• Other duties as assigned by the director

• Develop and advertise academic (ABE, high school diploma, GED, ESL) programs based on needs assessments.
• Utilize resources of the educational system and of the community in delivering adult education services.
• Monitor effectiveness of academic programs at all sites, including satellite sites.
• Be knowledgeable of and adhere to Defined Minimum Program standards.
• Maintain an adequate testing program to include:
•             (1)     Diagnosis and prescription
•             (2)     Student performance
• Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
• Monitors and implements the state assessment policy to ensure compliance in the adult education program
• Guides and counsels adult students interested in continuing their education.
• Assists in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the director

• Master’s degree preferred in education or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Minimum of two years of experience working with adults or in education, social work, or guidance capacities.
• Experience with program coordination, organizing events, and/or teacher training and supervision.
• Experience with diverse, economically disadvantaged populations and non-native English speakers.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to network and maintain positive relationships
• Must be able to work at least two days of a split schedule and travel between sites
