- Prepares medications by reviewing, interpreting, and executing physician prescription orders
- Determines appropriateness and legality of prescription orders
- Dispenses medications with appropriate packaging, and labeling pursuant to Federal and State Rules and Regulations
- Responsible for the accuracy and delivery of all prescription medications
- Detects therapeutic incompatibilities
- Monitors drug therapies and advises therapy changes and interventions
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels and orders medication when necessary
- Responsible for ordering schedule II-controlled substances and accepts the order appropriately from wholesaler by executing a DEA 222 form
- Organizes and directs pharmacy technicians workflow; by verifying their work preparation at data entry, labeling, and filling of pharmaceuticals
- Verifies that the copays and third party billing is appropriate and accurate
- Answers questions and requests of health care professionals,
- Provides counseling to patients when required and requested
- Participates in clinical programs; training of pharmacy staff, students, and health care professionals
- Complies with State and Federal Drug Laws as Regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration
- Monitors nursing units and performs site inspections
- Performs monthly continuous quality assurance checks
- Maintains records for controlled substances and non-controlled substances
- Removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
- Maintains current registrations
- Protects patients and pharmacy technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols
- Maintains pharmacological knowledge by participating in educational workshops, completing continued education hours, and reviewing professional publications
- Establishes and maintains profession networks.
- Contributes to team efforts by assisting in the preparation for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
