Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In this role you will be:
- Understand the organization’s staffing and educational needs
- Lead nursing onboarding, especially for newer nurses
- Plan and deliver in-house education or arrange for external experts
- Work with learners one-on-one to help them plan their nursing professional development
- Collaborate with department and team leaders to identify their teams’ unmet or future needs
- Keep up to date on evidence-based practice in nursing and adult education
- Maintain familiarity with nursing professional development resources, like nursing schools, professional associations, continuing education providers, and nursing literature
- Keep up to date on state regulations and requirements for nursing continuing education and professional development
- Document and keep records of professional development
- Manage nursing professional development budgets
- Navigate educational technology, such as learning management systems and demonstrates a working knowledge of AV equipment
- Able to demonstrate principles of adult learning and creative instructional design.
- Collaborating with Nursing Leadership to develop department-specific education for areas of responsibility.
- Conducts and analyzes formal and informal learning needs with leadership and staff. Develops and implements annual competency and education plan(s)
- Promoting organizational change through excellence in training and coordination of activities.
- Performing the primary functions of facilitator, instructor, and resource person in assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff development programs for the nursing department and other departments as needed.
- Participating in coaching staff through performance improvement throughout the organization.
- Applying concepts of adult education in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning experiences.
- Providing leadership to promote excellence in nursing practice, facilitate change initiatives, and support research
- Provide competency verification of nursing staff
- Performing selected primary clinical functions of a professional nurse to identify staff education needs or follow-up to projects.
- Participating in hospital orientation activities and in implementation and support of nursing initiatives.
- Preparing staff for annual accreditation surveys.
- Participating in hospital-based committees and process improvement.
- Facilitating group interaction and demonstrate strong speaking and listening skills.
- Recognized as a mentor; works to develop staff from beginner to expert status
- Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care.
- Collaborates with the leadership team and staff regarding patient care and staff performance issues. Participates in developing plan of performance improvement for individuals who fail to meet established performance metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- EDUCATION:
- Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing (BSN required, MSN preferred)
- EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in specialized area required
- 3-5 years med-surg experience required
- LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Licensure as an RN in Pennsylvania or eligible nurse must pass their nursing boards within 6 months of hire
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS instructor required or obtained within 1 year of hire
