What you'll do
The Community Involvement Specialist is responsible for leading community outreach, financial education, and public relations initiatives that are impactful in our communities and create good will for Canvas Credit Union. They will represent Canvas at community events and serve as company spokespersons.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Facilitate educational programs and seminars for community members and partner organizations.
- Provide support for Canvas’ charitable programs aimed at addressing the needs of branch communities; such as the Branch Donation and Canvas team member Volunteer Programs.
- Assist in coordinating events (scholarship programs, charitable drives, fundraisers, etc.) on behalf of the organization.
- Develop relationships with community leaders and serve as the organization's liaison with various constituents and stakeholder groups.
- Network through various chambers of commerce and other professional organizations to gain recognition and to seek new community opportunities for the credit union.
- Assist with the implementation of company-wide volunteer service and charitable projects.
- Assist in coordinating events (scholarship programs, charitable drives, fundraisers, etc.) on behalf of the organization.
- Serve as a resource for other departments for volunteer projects and financial education.
- Serve as a liaison to organizations within the community that share similar financial literacy goals.
- Execute initiatives designed to promote the organization and its services.
- Speak effectively before groups of members, co-workers, community members, and employees of partner organizations.
- Collaborate and coordinate with Marketing staff to build awareness and interest through print collateral, internal communications, press releases, and social media content.
- Respond to inquiries from members, staff, and communities about Canvas Credit Union programs.
- Recommend and help develop new community initiatives.
- Primarily works away from office (80% or more) on behalf of Canvas in various community outreach and growth initiatives
- Directly serves strategic initiatives set by senior leadership and the executive community engagement team
- Represent Canvas at sponsored partner and community events to increase awareness and promote goodwill.
- Ensure positive and effective relationships with community members, members, vendors, and Canvas team members.
- Maintain accurate reporting, appropriate tracking and measurement of community outreach initiatives and results.
- Actively promote and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals.
- Comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requirements.
- Keep informed about community outreach developments and trends, new services, and technological advances.
- Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard members and organization assets.
- Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other job duties as assigned

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Superior presentation and facilitation skills to effectively lead large and small group presentations, meetings, workshops and events.
- Strong relationship building and teamwork skills with the ability to develop and maintain consultative relationships with Canvas staff and community members.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proven ability to develop project plans, coordinate and complete projects on time and within budget.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Canvas Credit Union’s financial products and services; solid knowledge of financial literacy topics.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado drivers’ license and provide proof of insurance.
- Ability to maintain confidence.
- Multi-lingual capabilities, including Spanish, are a plus.
Education or Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, business or related majors.
Experience: Minimum of three years’ progressive public relations/community outreach experience; financial industry experience preferred.

Working Environment/Physical Activities
Office environment with frequent travel. Must be able to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends to attend/host community meetings, seminars, workshops and events. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines, and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files, and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
