SUMMARY:
The Deputy Tribal Administrator assists the Tribal Administrator in assigned areas to support the effective coordination and delivery of Tribal government services. This position helps implement Tribal Council directives, supports departmental operations, and fosters positive relationships between Tribal government and Community members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist the Tribal Administrator in assigned areas to support effective coordination, implementation, and delivery of government services to Community members.
2. Support the implementation of Tribal Council orders, resolutions, regulations, and strategic initiatives.
3. Assist in advising the Tribal Council on government operations, financial status, and administrative matters.
4. Support oversight of governmental services, facilities, and departmental functions to align with the Community’s strategic plan.
5. Assist in coordinating and supporting department heads in implementing policies, procedures, and goals.
6. Help monitor departmental plans, budgets, and timelines to ensure objectives and compliance requirements are met.
7. Assist in researching and analyzing data, preparing reports, and providing recommendations to support Council decision-making.
8. Support collaboration with the Finance Department to develop, present, and administer the annual tribal budget.
9. Assist with hiring, training, and evaluating staff, and progressively assume supervisory responsibilities for assigned areas as delegated by the Tribal Administrator.
10. Support the implementation and improvement of administrative policies, procedures, and operational processes.
11. Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies, regulations, and ordinances.
12. Serve as a liaison to governmental agencies, boards, task forces, and partner organizations as assigned.
13. Communicate effectively and tactfully with Tribal, local, state, and federal partners to foster cooperation, resolve issues, and represent the Community professionally.
14. Assist in responding to concerns, complaints, and inquiries from community members and employees, helping mediate and resolve issues.
15. Represent the Tribal Administrator at meetings, events, and public forums as directed.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Tribal Administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Enrolled Prairie Island community member in good standing.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Tribal government administration or related field; or Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, finance or related field.
3. Knowledge of Tribal laws, regulations, budgeting, accounting, and government financing.
4. Experience supporting administrative functions, including planning, budgeting, and program coordination.
5. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully across all levels of government in both written and verbal formats.
6. Demonstrated ability to grow into leadership and supervisory responsibilities under the direction of executive leadership.
7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
8. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and contribute effectively to a team.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity, dependability, and sound judgment.
10. Experience working with multiple levels of government and intergovernmental partners.
11. Sensitive to Native American culture and committed to serving the Community.
12. Must pass a drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check.
13. Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*
1. Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking
2. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
REQUIRED TRAINING:
1. Effectively Handling Harassment training
2. Any position-related training as determined by department manager
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
1. Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
