The opportunity
Join Hitachi Energy’s Service Business to support grid customers with maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle care for high‑voltage equipment and grid automation systems. In this role, you’ll diagnose complex issues in substations and industrial power systems, commission and test protection and control schemes, and implement reliability improvements that keep critical infrastructure running. You’ll work across planned outages and fast‑moving service calls, collaborate with engineering and vendors, and apply digital tools for asset health and condition monitoring—helping customers increase uptime, reduce risk, and advance innovation on the power grid.
How you’ll make an impact
- Perform field commissioning, acceptance testing, and troubleshooting of transformers, breakers, relay/protection systems, and associated substation equipment
- Lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including test plans, work execution, and customer sign‑off
- Analyze oscillography, event records, and SCADA/RTU data to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
- Configure, test, and document protection settings (e.g., line, transformer, bus, and feeder) and IEC 61850/GOOSE communications
- Execute retrofit and modernization scopes (relay upgrades, breaker replacements, digital substation integrations) with minimal downtime
- Prepare high‑quality service reports, as‑found/as‑left documentation, and redlines for drawings and settings files
- Partner with project managers, applications engineers, and suppliers to plan outages, parts, tooling, and site readiness
- Provide on‑site and remote technical guidance to customer operators and maintenance teams
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Your background
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred) or equivalent military/industry experience
- 3–8 years in field service, commissioning, testing, or maintenance of high‑voltage equipment or grid automation systems
- Hands‑on experience with protection & control (relay testing, settings, secondary injection) and substation apparatus testing
- Working knowledge of SCADA/RTU, networking, and common protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850); cybersecurity awareness for OT environments
- Strong safety mindset with familiarity in LOTO, arc‑flash boundaries, and energized work practices; OSHA 10/70E or ability to obtain
- Willingness to travel regionally with periods of night/weekend work during outages; valid driver’s license
