COMPENSATION: $82,452.11/year + DOE + Benefits, Exempt Regular Full-Time Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Iḷisaġvik College, as a business partner with the Alaska DMV, seeks a dedicated DMV Manager / Driver’s Education Instructor to provide vital driver licensing services—including REAL ID processing, DMV licensing transactions, and driver education instruction—across Utqiaġvik and North Slope villages.
This position requires strong administrative skills, community outreach, and expertise in teaching both classroom and behind-the-wheel driving courses, supporting compliance as an Alaska DMV-approved training Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
DMV Coordination & REAL ID Processing
- Process and verify REAL ID applications and other DMV licensing transactions per Alaska DMV and federal regulations.
- Review identity documentation for compliance, collect fees, and maintain accurate and confidential records in DMV databases.
- Submit transaction logs and reports to Ilisagvik College leadership and the Alaska DMV.
- Plan, coordinate, and travel regularly to North Slope villages to deliver DMV services, setting up mobile operations and educating community members on licensing requirements.
Driver’s Education Instruction & Program Management
- Teach Driver’s Education courses, including classroom instruction (permit preparation, traffic laws, driver safety) and behind-the-wheel training.
- Prepare and maintain up-to-date instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum aligned with DMV standards.
- Travel frequently to remote villages to provide Driver's Education classes directly to the community.
- Evaluate student performance; submit attendance, grades, and progress reports accurately and timely.
- Assist in maintaining Iḷisaġvik’s status as an Alaska DMV Approved Training Center by supporting instructor and examiner applications and program compliance.
- Coordinate road exams, permit testing schedules, and instructor support.
- Serve as a liaison to community members and students, connecting them to college resources such as DMV road exam vehicles, online test proctoring, and scholarships.
- Complete required reports, attend meetings, and participate in special events as needed.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding (or ability to gain understanding) of Alaska DMV processes, policies, and regulations, including REAL ID requirements, license classifications, testing procedures, and documentation standards.
- Knowledge of driver licensing processes, including application review, documentation verification, data entry, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Solid foundation in driver’s education instruction, including classroom and behind-the-wheel training, safe driving practices, defensive driving techniques, and road safety laws.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to pass and complete DMV-required training and certifications.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:
- Associates degree in relevant field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- 3-5 years’ experience with DMV processes
- 1 year of instruction experience
- Valid Alaska Driver's License held for at least one year, with a clean driving record.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:
- Bachelor’s degree. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Prior experience in driver education, DMV processing, or community outreach in rural Alaska.
