FISCAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR
(Class Code 272C)
The San Francisco Superior Court is seeking highly qualified individuals interested in serving in a newly established Fiscal Services Supervisor position to lead a staff dedicated to teamwork. This position provides day-to-day direction and oversight of an assigned area in the Court’s Fiscal Services Unit. Performs a variety of complex financial management and accounting work, oversees and manages accounting staff, and ensures all accounting functions are properly performed. This is a great opportunity for someone with initiative to use strong analytical and leadership skills to make an impact on the Court’s financial strategies and goals.
This selection process is being conducted in accordance with San Francisco Superior Court Personnel Rule 4. An eligibility list will not be established.

COMPENSATION: $4,058.14 to $4,932.80 biweekly ($105,512 to $128,253 annually)

Position Duties
POSITION OVERVIEW
- Supervises, assigns, plans, and coordinates the fiscal and accounting work performed by the assigned staff, including cash handling, accounts receivables, payables, payroll and general ledger analysis, procurement, year-end closing, audits, and a variety of reports to ensure fiscal accuracy and control. Includes training, coaching, and evaluating staff performance.
- Oversees the day-to-day trust revenue collections and distributions activities; reconciles e-filling and trust general ledger accounts to the bank and the case management system; validates monthly, quarterly, and annual distribution reports are in compliance with the state’s revenue distribution guidelines; reviews and authorizes refund payments for fines and fees and revenues related adjustments.
- Participates in the new case management implementation, identification of functional processing and reporting requirements, end-users testing and documentation, training and implementation support for financial processing and reporting systems.
- Analyzes and recommends new or updated fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Analyzes business practices to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of fiscal operations.
- Leads cross-functional fiscal related projects to successful outcomes, driving measurable improvements and timely delivery.
- Performs complex accounting functions in connection with budget development and control, program and performance analysis, trending analysis, contract review, general ledger analysis, and grants management.
- Performs fiscal year-end closing duties.
- Manages grant accounting activities, which include processing, set-up, reconciling and reimbursement reports in accordance with grant requirements.
- Independently completes assignments within established deadlines and demonstrates thorough knowledge of applicable ordinances, rules, regulations, policies, standards, and sound judgment.
- May coordinate, define, develop, and maintain financial data extracts, reports, and interfaces.
- Assists with the development and implementation of organizational goals, objectives, new work procedures, and policies for the Court.
- Presents and explains reports to financial and non-financial managers, co-workers, and other government agencies and clients.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Work is performed in an office environment; continuous contact with other governmental jurisdictions, other staff, and the public.
Typical Physical Requirements: Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, FAX, and multiple function machines.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Three years of responsible professional work experience in accounting, auditing, and financial analysis work, preferably including at least one year in a supervisory capacity, including scheduling, organizing, and directing the work of other employees, and/or in a recognized leadership role.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Government work experience highly desirable.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of:
- Comprehensive Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and principles of internal control; comprehensive knowledge in terminology and procedures involved in performing complex governmental accounting functions.
- Principles of supervision, training, and employee evaluation.
- General accounting theory, principles, and practices, and their application to a variety of accounting and fiscal management transactions and problems.
- Governmental budgeting, auditing, and cost accounting.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Excel.
- Grants management, including federal and state funded grants.
- Program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Contract and procurement.
Ability to:
- Provide supervision, training, and work evaluation for assigned staff.
- Analyze and interpret various fiscal and/or accounting data and reports.
- Perform a wide variety of complex accounting, auditing, and financial transaction work.
- Analyze and evaluate financial, program, and operational information, researching and gathering appropriate data to resolve problems and make appropriate decisions.
- Determine compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Judicial Council, other agencies, and other existing legal requirements.
- Provide excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Interpret and explain state, federal, and local laws, codes, guidance, and regulations regarding Court financial management responsibilities and functions and make sound judgments.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

SELECTION PROCESS
Initial Screening

Oral Interview & Skills Exercise
If necessary, selected applicants may be interviewed to determine their relative knowledge, abilities, and skill levels in job-related areas. Applicants may also be required to participate in a skills exercise related to job factors. If interviews and the skills exercise are scheduled, it is anticipated that they will be conducted in early December 2025.
