Job Summary

The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator is responsible for the transportation of parents, children and/or caregivers to and from scheduled court ordered visits. There is also the responsibility of facilitating visitation between siblings when living in separate homes and visits are unable to occur naturally between the caregivers.

The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will serve to observe and monitor family visits of those who are involved in the child welfare system. These family visits will be focused on the individual needs of the children/families and will occur in a wide variety of settings based on safety and best interest of the family. The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will always be within visual and auditory proximity of family visit.

The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will work to remove all barriers related to visitations with families by coordinating schedules between the involved parties, providing transportation when needed to various participants and offering flexible scheduling to accommodate families which will include some nights and weekend availability. This job requires good time management, problem solving, and organizational skills in addition to ability to be flexible.

The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will be responsible for accurate and timely documentation of family visitations and interactions. This employee will attend team meetings/staffings to communicate the progress and needs of the family to the child welfare team. The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will attend court as requested and could be required to testify to the facts of how visitation is being carried out and family progress and/or concerns.

The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will communicate in a responsible, courteous and professional manner and must have the ability to discuss difficult topics with professionalism and respect. This employee will provide effective feedback to parents regarding their parenting skills, offer praise, and may provide guidance on how to improve interactions. The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will have an understanding of child development, basic childcare, discipline, and community resources as necessary, as well as possess a basic understanding child abuse and neglect risk factors (such as mental illness and substance abuse).

The Visitation/Transportation Coordinator will assist with transportation needs within the agency on an as needed basis.  Examples of this would be taking parents and children to medical and mental health appointments, assisting in obtaining birth and medical records and general transportation and driving as needed for the Nassau Service Center. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Observe and monitor family visits of those who are involved in the child welfare system. Provide effective feedback to parents regarding their parenting skills, offer praise, and provide guidance on how to improve interactions.
  • Coordinate schedules between the involved parties and provide transportation to visitations when needed.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of family visitations/interactions.
  • Maintaining and filing records on all cases, including correspondences, and other documentation related to each case directly into FSFN.
  • Attend team meetings/staffings to communicate the progress and needs of the family to the child welfare team. Attend court as requested and could be required to testify to the facts of how visitation is being carried out and family progress and/or concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in a human service field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with children and/or families.
  • Valid Driver’s License and must be insurable under company’s automobile policy.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

 Schedule & Hours

Monday through Friday, between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM., occasionally appointments may fall after 5:00pm
