As a Tutor, you will provide academic and cultural development support to eligible Alaska Native and American Indian students. The Tutor supports both primary and secondary grades, in small groups, one-on-one settings, and/or extended school day hours. The Tutor provides support to classroom teachers on issues and strategies in working with students to meet the goals of the district’s curriculum and the student’s needs.

 

The core job duties of the Tutor are to

 

  • Provide academic and cultural development support to eligible Alaska Native and American Indian students in small groups, one-on-one settings, and/or extended school day hours.
  • Tutor students in some or all the following subjects:        reading, writing, math, language arts, English, science, and social studies; integrate into classrooms with a high number of Native students.
  • Collaborates with the classroom teacher(s) in determining the needs of students; implements and evaluates individual tutorial plans, maintains, and evaluates student records and tracks academic progress; assists in parent-teacher conferences, upon request.

The successful candidate will have 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of community resources and family services
  • Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, and the ability to work effectively with Alaska Native populations, 
  • Ability to work in teams and independently without constant supervision, 
  • Two years of college (AA or 28 credits) is a plus
